Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. In the world of gardening, it is rare that a grass variety has the potential to become the star of the show. The complex beauty of the Overdam Feather Reed Grass (Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Overdam') defies this logic with a graceful bow!
Like many Reed Grasses, the Overdam Feather Reed Grass is known to grow very dense in large erect clumps. These flat green leaves rise slender and stiffly skyward, and in the summer produce flower stalks which produce persistent seed pods.
This tall-growing grass sports a variegated set of foliage of light green with creamy white stripes throughout. This has plenty of potential on its own, but as summer begins to show so does this plant's full potential.
Overdam Feather Reed Grass is one of over 200 different varieties of cool-season grasses you can find in the northern region's temperate regions. Fast growing in its prime season, this grass can grow to be several feet tall at its peak.
Golden shoots of flowers and seed heads erupt into the sky as the spring fades. Words can't properly describe the beauty of this grass in full bloom, especially with its feathery plumes glowing as the sun sets.
This grass is well known as one of the most popular ornamental grasses on the market, so its cousin is sure to live up to expectations. If your garden is missing that one-of-a-kind accent piece or filler, then you'll want to order an Overdam Feather Reed Grass from our expert growers here at Nature Hills Nursery!
How to Use Overdam Feather Reed Grass in the Landscape
The clumping growth pattern of the Overdam Feather Reed Grass makes it a tidy backdrop to other flowering perennials in its bed. This grass will also provide different accent colors as the seasons pass.
The tall growth and feathered texture of this Ornamental grass make it an ideal way to add level definition to your garden. Use it as a midpoint between your low-level perennials and taller shrubs and trees for a stair-step definition full of beautiful potential.
Due to its high moisture tolerance, the Overdam Feather Reed Grass makes for a great bank accent in ponds or stream banks. If you are fortunate enough to have access to these natural water sources in your yard be sure to maximize their beauty potential with this Reed Grass.
This perennial grass plays very nicely with others! Consider mass planting as the focus of a particular bed, or as an accent background with its own story to tell.
The variegated coloration of the Variegated Feather Reed Grass also makes it interesting enough to give its own time in the spotlight. When used in conjunction with a contrasting planter or container this grass can pop all on its own.
#ProPlantTips for Care
The Overdam Feather Reed Grass is a big fan of full sun, so make sure to plant in an area with a good sky view! In some hotter regions be aware of potential sun damage and browning.
This grass variety is naturally adapted to grow in many different soil types, even thriving in heavy clay! Plant in medium to wet soils to enable the best growth and longevity.
This perennial grass is remarkably hardy when it comes to diseases and pests. One of the only moderate threats to the grass's health would be rust, so be sure to check your grass occasionally after a long rainy spell to prevent the fungus from spreading.
While the Overdam Feather Reed Grass is relatively low maintenance, it may not be a terrible idea to trim it once a year to keep its growth in check.
Be sure to trim before early spring to prevent damage to the grass's new growth, and it's recommended to trim it to the ground in late winter.
The towering stems of the Overdam Feather Reed Grass are a perfect fit for your garden in the making. From its several seasons of interest to its locational versatility, this grass can be yours in just a few clicks from Nature Hills Nursery!
