The morning sun is best due to its drying power to clear the leaves of dew. They love good air circulation! The key to successfully growing Dahlias is well-enriched soil with regular fertilizer, and top-dress with 3-4 inches of arborist bark mulch for consistent soil moisture and protect the roots.

Referred to as 'bulbs' the roots of the Dahlia are tubers like potatoes and sprout from the 'eyes'. Plant Dahlia tubers between 10-12 inches deep in loosened, enriched soil. These modified roots need to be planted in very well-drained soil that won't become soggy. Tubers planted directly in the ground will start to sprout in about 3 weeks depending on your climate and weather.
