Lovely domed and mounded airy texture, the Orchid Rock Rose (Cistus x purpureus) is a lovely orchid pink flowering broadleaf evergreen shrub! Each crinkly-petalled large bloom fades to a nearly white ring before becoming brilliant yellow where the pollen-rich stamen awaits pollinators. The petals are further accented by a dart of deep maroon-red and form a star in the center of each blossom!
The airy, aromatic green foliage is small yet longer, growing into deep green mounds of broadleaf evergreen beauty! The crepe-papery petals are nectar and pollen-rich for butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects, blooming all summer and not fading in the heat and sun of the southern climate.
Orchid Rock Rose, sometimes spelled as one word Rockrose, are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 8 through 11, and grow large despite being a water-wise flowering shrub! Putting on size at a medium rate of growth, Rockroses can reach 3-4 feet in height and spread 6-8 feet wide!
Planting and Application:
Orchid Rock Roses are shocking punches of color that defy the heat and sun! Plant in a foundation hedge, Rock Garden, or Pollinator border to enjoy the year-round presence of its foliage! Create a backdrop row among perennial gardens, or plant several Rock Rose along your sunny walkways and paths!
A single, rounded specimen stands out in the sun garden beautifully, adding its wide-spreading form to create large focal points that won't need any care and maintenance. Plant anywhere a sunny year-round shock of color and winter interest garden features is needed! You'll especially love the low, flowering broadleaved evergreen hedges you can create for year-round landscaping!
Rock Roses are fantastic salt-tolerant shrubs and are perfect for Xeric installations. Great in oceanside plantings and hot, sunny inland plantings, and established Rockroses will rarely need summer waterings! You'll love the informal, easy-to-grow landscapes you can achieve with these easy-care plants!
- Orchid-Pink/Purple 3-Inch Blooms

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Rock Roses need full sun, and are hardy, and highly adaptable to a wide range of well-drained soil with regular moisture access for young broadleaf evergreen shrubby perennials. Avoid poor soils that retain lots of water to avoid drowning your shrub, because these plants become quite drought-tolerant once established.
Little pruning is needed, but if you do choose to trim your Rock Rose, do so only after it's done flowering. Provide a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface to help with insulating the roots and provide moisture retention.
- Full Sun & Some Partial Shade
- Needs Well-Draining Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Once Established
- Prune After Flowering Only
- Tolerant of Salt, Droughts, Pests, Diseases & Heat
Orchid Rock Rose is a vibrant beauty that loves the sun and heat! Order now at Nature Hills and enjoy an easy breezy landscape with this flowering evergreen growth!
