Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

It's said that the Greek goddess Iris, was a beautiful maiden with wings on her shoulders, so it seems a fitting name then that these beautiful flowers bear her name! The On Edge Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'On Edge') is an alluring, early-mid season bloomer that evokes a delicate, rustic charm with its soft billowing petals, long slender stems, and upright sword-like foliage.

Showing off with lovely lilac-blue 'flags' that rise straight up from the spilling purple-edged, pristine white 'falls', stand tall with their fuzzy soft yellow 'beards' Their glorious blooms arrive each year by late spring and can last through early summer with their multiple, fragrant buds! They are certainly divine to behold!

Growing up to 3-4 feet in height when in bloom, this dramatic Bearded Iris variety only spread into tidy clumps about 2 feet wide. But their impact on your landscape is immense! You won't find a better embodiment of the Green goddess than that!

Planting and Application:

Bees, butterflies, and Hummingbirds are known to frequent this plant so your garden is sure to be abuzz with activity from helpful pollinators! Plant a few along your walkway, fence line, or in those corners of the garden where other plants might struggle, turning any garden into a Pollinator Garden!

You'll benefit from the many scented cut flowers you'll gain from planting extra in the form of groupings and in long winding rows! Add bi-color elegance to your Cottage gardens, upright texture to mixed Perennial gardens and mixed planters, and rugged beauty to Rock Gardens alike!

Iris has long been valued for being a tough, easy-to-grow perennial. Their upright, sturdy form and carefree nature make them easy to place throughout the landscape, and a brilliant show can be depended upon when they present their yearly display!

#ProPlantTips For Care

On Edge is a clump-forming German, or Bearded Iris that grows from spreading underground rhizomes. Iris will be most comfortable in sunny sections of your garden, but is not intolerant to partial shade either, especially in hotter growing zones of USDA planting zone 3-9.

On Edge prefers moist soil but can manage drier conditions as well. Top-dress with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect the rhizomes, which prefer to be partly planted in the ground instead of planted deeply. Deadhead the flowers as they fade and trim back the foliage when it yellows in the autumn. Every 3-5 years, divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.

This delightful plant is relatively low maintenance and hardy. Deer and rabbits seldom bother with them and they have few pests and diseases when kept stress-free.

  • Full Sun & Afternoon Shaded Locations
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Well-Drained Rich Soil
  • Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Trim Stems in Late Autumn
  • Pest, Deer & Rabbit-Resistant

Heavenly, white, purple and violet blooms, no matter how you look at it, On Edge Tall Bearded iris will be a great addition to your garden this year! Order yours today at NatureHills.com!

Information About Bare Root Iris

Plant Iris about 15-18 inches apart. Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.

When planting, make sure 1/3rd of the rhizome is exposed to sunlight with the roots buried underneath. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover them in the spring.
