Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 7-9
Add the bold Christmas red blooms of petite October Magic® Ruby™ Camellia (Camellia sasanqua 'Green 02-003'). Part of the Southern Living Plant Collection, Ruby™ Camellias perform beautifully throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9. Be entranced by the contrast between the vivid "pom-pom" flowers and the olive green, super glossy green broadleaf evergreen foliage.
Snip both regularly during the late fall to winter bloom time for cut flower arrangements indoors without worrying you'll deprive your hummingbirds and pollinators! This special low-growing cultivar delivers a delightful show of fully double, ruby red blooms through the late season when your landscape needs it the most!
This natural dwarf also features dense, compact branching and a conical, spreading growth habit that makes it a snap to care for, as well! Growing just 3-4 feet tall and spreading 4-5 feet in width, it fits easily into about any sized yard or even container garden!
Planting and Application:
Use several October Magic® Ruby™ Camellia as a low hedge or mass planting. For a solid screen, space them 30 inches apart on center (measure from the center of one to the center of the next). Create gorgeous screening and property division, or even create romantic outdoor garden rooms with these privacy-inducing shrubs and their year-round foliage!
In small spaces, keep a single Ruby™ as a pretty specimen shrub. You'll forever be studying how this knockout brings a welcome softness to the vibrant color red! This tidy plant can be easily kept in outdoor containers as a hardy option that thrives year after year. Place them on your porch or keep them on a rented balcony as a lush accent.
Weave them into your mixed borders as a consistent design element. This top-designer trick makes the eye flow through the landscape to visually bring it all together. Add curb appeal to your foundation planting without blocking your windows. Plus this dwarf Camellia is an incredible backdrop to other garden beds!
Can you think of a nicer plant gift? Once established, Camellia sasanqua shrubs are blissfully easy-care and deliver armloads of bright double blooms each fall once the weather finally cools down a little!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best results, site Ruby™ October Magic® Camellia where it will receive at least four hours of sunlight each day, preferring morning sun and afternoon shade throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9. Camellias don't like standing water, so mound up if your soil isn't well-drained. They'll love the life-long support of our symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster used in the planting hole...it's money well spent!
Tolerant of periodic drought only after the roots are established, give supplemental water the first season and during long periods of dry weather. You may never need to prune Ruby, but if you do...do it in early spring before the first flush of flowers. Fertilize with a good Acid Lovers formula in early spring, following directions for application rates and reapplication schedule. Apply deer repellent on the day you plant and reapply according to the label directions, if they regularly visit your yard. Finally, apply a layer of pine bark mulch over the top of the root system but never directly touching the stems.
- Grow in Part Shade or Afternoon Shade
- Easy to Grow in Acidic, Well-Drained Soils
- Displays Drought Tolerance Once Established
- Prune After Flowering
- Low Maintenance & Widely Adapted
