Growing Zones
Ethereal tri-color blooms that resemble butterflies in mid-flight, the Moonlight Shadow Gladiolus (Gladiolus x hortulanus 'Moonlight Shadow') is a dreamy vision of white petals with ruffled lavender edges, contrasted by bright lunar-green throats that act as bulls-eyes for pollinators!
Moonlight Shadow forms vivid 3-4 foot tall spires that are lined in alternating blooms that open from the bottom to the top - giving you and your butterflies a long-lasting display! These tall wands are fringed in vertical sword-like foliage that accentuates the upright flowers!
These summer-flowering bulbs, better known as corms, are reliable perennials but need to be lifted in the fall in colder growing zones. Try planting waves of corms 2 weeks apart to extend your bloom time and give you plenty of flowers for bees and bouquets!
Landscape Application:
Moonlight Shadow Gladiolus are fantastic backdrops for the back of your garden borders, or line pathways and fence lines. Create a winding or zig-zagging row along your home's foundation or throughout your sun garden beds. Create groupings that amplify the color combination around your mailbox or as clusters throughout your garden beds as focal points!
Gladiolus corms can be used as seasonal or annual accents in all USDA planting zones. Plant yours in the ground as annuals, or enjoy all growing season and lift the bulbs in the fall. However, gardeners in USDA planting zones 8 to 10 can use these plants in the ground all year round as perennial accents! Glads are great naturalizers and look wonderful planted in groups and en masse in the landscape.
You don't need a large property to enjoy these incredible blooms because these space-saving bulbs add tall thrillers and showy focal points among your container gardens, front porch urns, and patio mixed planters in the sun! Apartment and balcony gardeners can use these tall spires as seasonal accents!
- Ruffled Lavender Edged White Petals With Glowing Yellow-Green Throats
- Upright Sword-Shaped Green Foliage
- Long-Lasting Bloom Time
- Fantastic Cut Flowers & Pollinator-Friendly
- Specimens, Groupings, Container Thrillers, Focal Points & Mass Plantings
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Gladiolus are strongest in full sun in cooler growing zones but appreciate afternoon shade in hot growing zones. Any well-drained soil location works great. These bulbs do appreciate moderate yet regular moisture access and mulched beds.
Plant these corms in the spring about 6-8 inches deep. Groupings and rows have the biggest effect and impact on your garden, so plant your corms pointy side up about 5-6 inches apart.
Stake your flower wands unless you plant your Glads in a location protected from the wind. Deadhead as soon as the last flower fades but keep the greenery to make food for the bulb until they turn yellow.
Gladiola corms can grow as seasonal or annual accents in all USDA planting zones. However, gardeners in zones 8 to 10 can use these plants in the ground all year round as perennial accents! In zones 1 through 7, lift your corms as you would Canna or Dahlias, and store them for the winter in a cool, dry location.
- Full Sun & Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Organic Well-Drained Soil
- Deadhead After Blooms Fade & Prune or Dig in Fall
- Spring-Planted Summer-Flowering Corm
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant
