Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

How to Use Merrill Magnolia in the Landscape

With froths of fragrant white flowers and picturesque habit of growth, these exquisite trees are formal enough to place in the front yard foundation planting. Place one at the corner of your house to anchor the foundation planting.

Choose this natural hybrid Magnolia selection, which is excellent as a feature tree in front yard lawn plantings. Underplant with spring-blooming bulbs, evergreen groundcover and smaller summer-blooming shrubs in a well-mulched bed. You'll look like a professional garden designer for very little effort.

If you have a sunny side yard, place a row of them to define your property line. Your neighbor will be so thankful for this "friendly fence".

They also look terrific as an effective, large-scale privacy screen. Place them 15 feet apart on center, measuring from trunk to trunk.

Place them near your kitchen window, or behind your patio seating. You'll want to study their glamorous blooms up close.

Add to the sunny side of windbreaks for a graceful flowering accent. Create excitement with several Magnolia varieties, or include Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Chickasaw Plum and Spring Snow Crabapples, too.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Give Merrill Magnolia full sun. They'll flower best with at least six hours of sunshine a day.

Magnolias love slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Create a raised bed with additional soil, if you need to improve drainage.

Apply pine straw or pine bark mulch to a depth of three inches over the root system. Please pull back the mulch at least six inches all around the trunk to give proper air circulation.

Magnolias like to have evenly moist soil, not too dry and not too wet. If you don't get rainfall, apply a regular schedule of supplemental moisture.

Wait to prune to shape or correct until after it is finished blooming. Use a light hand, and preplan your pruning cuts.

Please place your order quickly, before we sell out of our limited inventory. Our Merrill Magnolia tree form is a "living sculpture" to grace your landscape!

Tree Form vs. Shrub Form

The details make all the difference in a garden. At Naturehills.com, we understand that little things like what form a plant is can greatly impact how you plan your landscape. So before you buy, don’t forget to check which form you’re getting.

Tree Form:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching to a more desired height. Sometimes, you will hear a tree form referred to as a single stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
