Magnolias love slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Create a raised bed with additional soil, if you need to improve drainage.

Apply pine straw or pine bark mulch to a depth of three inches over the root system. Please pull back the mulch at least six inches all around the trunk to give proper air circulation.

Magnolias like to have evenly moist soil, not too dry and not too wet. If you don't get rainfall, apply a regular schedule of supplemental moisture.

Wait to prune to shape or correct until after it is finished blooming. Use a light hand, and preplan your pruning cuts.
