Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 6 - 9
Tiny glossy foliage compactly-growing, naturally neat, tidy, rounded form, the Luxus® Compact Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata 'Annys5') is a fantastic broadleaf evergreen! Create easy landscape definition with these multi-stemmed, densely-branched little bushes for year-round formal landscaping without any fuss!
Spring brings tiny, nearly inconspicuous greenish blooms, and even if you don't notice them, the local bees will seek them out! If you have any female Compact Japanese Holly shrubs with a male Luxus® nearby, you'll enjoy black tiny berries that the songbirds will love! But Luxus® itself is a male only clone, so you won't see any fruit in general.
Luxus® Compact Japanese Holly only grows to about 2 feet in height and width, creating a compact rounded ball of greenery! Because it is so very compact, it won't grow fast. It doesn't need to! This means less maintenance on your part, just some waiting as it works diligently to grow to full size. So plan accordingly for its future mature size. Nature Hills ships established mature root systems, so your wait time is cut in half!
Planting and Application:
Luxus® Compact Japanese Holly can be used as you would Boxwood and are ideal alternatives to Boxwood shrubs due to their disease and pest-resistance! Becoming fantastic edging along garden paths and borders, as facer shrubs to hide leggy stems of larger, more mature plants (as long as they aren't sitting in the shade of these larger plants), and defining landscaping beds in both formal and informal settings all year long and make your landscape feel like a castle garden.
Create a solid fill by planting these little garden gems 1-2 feet apart and letting them grow together over time. For a looser, more visual mini-hedge, plant 2-3 feet apart to create the feel there is a border. You'll love creating gardens lined in Holly hedges to create your own little Sissinghurst-style Castle gardens!
Small enough to create year-round green thrillers and focal points anywhere in the sun! Try potting up Luxus® in formal urns and lining your driveway or set a matched pair on either side of your sunny front door. You will create an inviting easy modern display without the need for a lot of work!
Want to have some fun? Try your hand at Topiary or Bonsai with these evergreen little wonders! Even if you have a tiny landscape or just a container garden, you'll be able to enjoy regal Luxus® as a year-round green specimen as long as you have some sun!

To further support these shrubs, top-dress the root zone with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch, pine straw or pine bark mulch. These little shrubs should rarely need pruning, but if you choose to do some trimming, only do so after the first flush of spring growth.
