Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

The Orchid Frost Lamium (Lamium maculatum 'Orchard Frost') has beautiful pointed, toothy blue-green foliage with a silver overlay. These low-growing plants become wide-spreading flowering groundcovers that fill your landscape with softly glinting foliage.

In spring, the entire plant becomes smothered in short, clear-pink flower spikes making it a wonderful garden accent and container spiller! The butterflies will stop by for a visit, and flutter above the silvery leaves. With a plant height of 6 inches and a spread of 18-24 inches, Orchid Frost blooms until July.

Also known as Spotted Deadnettle, Lamium are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, these lovely flowering groundcover plants attract all the attention! Lamium has amazing color and texture, perfect for your shaded landscape, or container.

Planting and Application:

It's quite hardy and a wonderful choice when you need something fast-growing or in areas where Orchid Frost appreciates a bit shady or dry sites. It's deer-resistant and even bunnies will pass it by! It's a plant you can put in place and will quickly spread out. It can be left to grow naturally, or you can trim it back in winter for a neater appearance!

Use Lamium either as annual accents and perennial spillers in hanging baskets, in mixed containers, trailing over walls, or as an edger, but spread must be controlled. Orchid Frost looks great among Hostas, Ferns, Lungworts, spring and summer flowering bulbs, and a wide variety of wildflowers! Plant at the edges of your woodland garden to soften the edges between the landscaped yard and nature.

Plant a few where you'd like an impressive groundcover, but Lamium is terrific at choking back weeds wherever it's planted. Use these low-growers as a stand-out edging plant along borders, pathways, and landscape margins. Each dainty leaf's silver hue stands out amid more commonly colored plantings, making it impossible to miss even amid tall, colorful plants!

  • Clear Pink Flowering Spikes - Spring & Summer
  • Low-Growing Spreading Groundcover
  • Toothy Textured Blue-Green Leaves With A Silver Overlay
  • Fantastic In Containers & For Pollinators
  • Weed Blocking Groundcover, Container Spillers, Edging & Borders

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Orchid Frost will grow best in full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade in a moist area. Plant in well-drained soil and do not allow it to dry out. We suggest adding a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around its base to help protect the roots from the glaring sun while conserving water. Prune and trim out dead stems in the early spring and deadhead after flowering.

  • Perennial in Cold Winters/Partially Evergreen in Mild Winters
  • Full Shade to Part Sun
  • Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Deadhead After Flowering & Prune Early Spring
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant
