Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Wild Pawpaw trees have been a hidden tasty gem that’s an exotic native found throughout the US! A new arrival to the Pawpaw tree family, the KSU Benson™ Pawpaw Tree (Asimina triloba 'Benson') is just as tough and hardy, as well as tasty, as the native varieties!

One of the smaller-sized Pawpaw trees available are ornamental and lovely landscaping trees. The large yellowish-green oval fruits can be quite large and smooth-skinned. Inside the ripe fruit hides bright yellow, creamy, custardy flesh with large dark seeds that are easy to eat around!

Scoop out with a spoon fresh or add these tropical-tasting fruit to quick bread, ice cream, and smoothies. With flavors reminiscent of banana, mango, pineapple plus creamy as can be. Harvest these high-yield trees around September to October and enjoy the highly nutritious fruit!

Planting and Application:

Tropical leaves in bright green are fantastic foils for the reddish-purple bell-shaped flowers that attract pollinators galore! Unfortunately, these pollinators don’t do much for producing fruit, so be sure to hand pollinate your tree or pair it with another Paw Paw tree variety.

Once you taste this unique native fruit, you and your family will want more! Not everyone has room for multiple trees, so prune these smaller as needed or try this High-Density Planting Technique in our Garden Blog to save space!

  • Ornamental and tropical foliage plus yellow fall color
  • Mid to late season harvest and huge crops
  • Fruits as young as 2-3 years old
  • Creamy yellow flesh inside greenish-yellow smooth skin
  • Custard-Apple family with Cherimoya, Atemoya, Guanabana, and Soursop

#ProPlantTips for Care:

While native, wild Pawpaw trees are typically understory trees, for fruit, it’s best to plant your tree in full sun. If you are using this as just shade and ornamental qualities, these can tolerate partial shade.

Drought-tolerant once established, but for the best fruit provide your Pawpaw with weekly waterings in about any type of well-drained soil. Prune smaller if needed in late winter

  • Full sun to part shade in most types of soil
  • Cold-resistant & naturally disease resistant
  • Begins bearing fruit its second year
  • Drought tolerant once established
