That's a good thing if you live further north. The savvy blossoms play to win against Old Man Winter.

Use these gorgeous, showy flowers in cut flower arrangements. Float one in a shallow bowl, or add branches in bloom to a tall vase, weighted with glass beads at the bottom.

The amazing sight and fresh scent of these flowers will make your day. Even if you just leave them on your tree, you'll delight in seeing a variety of butterflies visit each bloom several times a day.

In areas with mild winters, the leaves may remain on the tree all year-long. These semi-evergreen leaves will behave as a deciduous tree in cold winters.

As the growing season winds down, you'll want to look for the beautiful red seed heads. Be quick about it, as they are here and gone. Hungry songbirds feast on them quickly.

Use these marvelous trees as a single specimen, or create a truly effective informal grouping of them. You'll never, ever regret this choice.

How to Use Kay Parris Magnolia in the Landscape

With a small, upright form, Kay Parris makes a wonderful anchor tree at the corner of your foundation planting. Extend your mulched bed to include one spaced 12 feet from your house.

Commercial property owners can use them as a noteworthy avenue, evenly spaced along the campus drive. For individual trees that will not touch, plant 20 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

Add several to a berm planting, or as a feature planting set out into the yard. Vary the spacing 12 - 20 feet apart in a loose triangle.

Remove sod and mulch underneath. Underplant with smaller flowering and evergreen shrubs and perennials as you install the trees.

Take advantage of their dense foliage as a useful flowering privacy screen. Plant them eight feet apart on center if you want the canopies to grow together and touch

.This tree becomes a very effective "living wall" to divide your lot into a series of outdoor rooms. This old designer secret will make your lot live much larger!

Add different seating areas on either side of your Kay Parris "wall" and enjoy the good life.

Take your time when siting your new trees. Spend time studying all the angles.

When sited correctly, our gorgeous native Magnolias develop into a perfect sculptural accent for your landscape. Don't be afraid to sculpt your tree with judicious pruning, if needed.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Give your trees a spot in full sun, where Kay Parris will receive at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. You'll have the best flowering display with plenty of sunshine.

They will perform at their best in slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Use a raised bed, if you need to improve drainage.

In alkaline soils, use a three-inch layer of pine straw or pine bark mulch, which breaks down to naturally increase the soil acidity. Never let mulch touch the trunk, and reapply annually.

Provide a regular schedule of supplemental water, if you don't receive enough rain. Soak your young plants to ensure their root systems are adequately hydrated.

Once they are established, older plants can tolerate a bit of occasional drought. However, we always recommend that you protect your investment with a long, deep soak as needed.

If you need to prune your tree, wait until after the spring blooms are past. Create a pruning plan before you pick up the loppers. Decide which limbs you want to keep, then remove anything you need to.

Even though Magnolias are not a preferred plant for deer, it's always a good idea to apply deer repellent to new trees. They are curious and hungry. Reapply according to directions on the label.

Add these "right-sized", cold-hardy cultivars of Southern Magnolia to your landscape this season. Consider yourself lucky!

These truly are spectacular, elegant trees to fall in love with. Order Kay Parris Magnolia today!

Tree Form vs. Shrub Form

The details make all the difference in a garden. At Naturehills.com, we understand that little things like what form a plant is can greatly impact how you plan your landscape. So before you buy, don’t forget to check which form you’re getting.

Tree Form:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching to a more desired height. Sometimes, you will hear a tree form referred to as a single stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
