Growing Zones 3-9
Difficult name, but an easy-peasy plant! Here at Nature Hills, we really love an easy plant. You know the kind we mean - if it doesn't care what kind of dirt you stick it in, then it's an easy plant. If it doesn't require any pruning but still looks neat and tidy, it's a breeze to grow.
The Kamtschaticum Sedum (Sedum kamtschaticum) is hands down one of those easy plants. It has uniquely scalloped glossy-green leaves that are thick and fleshy. It is a low-grower that doesn't need to be trimmed to stay under a foot tall. It is covered in daisy-yellow flowers that age to a rich bronze as the season wears on.
Kamtschaticum Sedum, also known as Stonecrop, attracts hummingbirds, bee and butterfly to your garden, but the deer and rabbits turn their noses up. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9, these low-moisture perennials grow 6-12 inches tall when in bloom and 12-15 inches wide as they mature! These root as they creep along to form weed-blocking mats.
Planting and Application:
Sedum are great bank-stabilizer or bare-spot-coverer, especially when planted en masse so they grow to fill in together as one. Perfect color for the tops of retaining walls and trailing down over the edges to soften their look, or brightening a hard-to-mow hillside with easy-care beauty!
Kamtschaticum works in borders, beds, or along pathways as edging, creeping over pavers, and filling in between the stepping stones. It even works in hard-to-plant coastal salt-spray zones and those most difficult areas along the road, sidewalk, or a driveway that receive winter salt - known as the hell strip. If it's not on a major thoroughfare it even handles a little light foot traffic.
This Creeping Sedum is Xeric and thrives in drier soils, making it a welcome addition to the rugged conditions of the average sun garden, and is recommended for use around the fire-wise landscape!
Cottage gardens, pollinator borders, mixed perennial gardens, and Alpine plantings are all beautiful locations for these low-growing garden workhorses! They're a must-have for the Rock and Crevice garden, lovely spillers in container gardens and planters, and brighten everyone's day each summer!
- Bright Yellow Star-Shaped Flowers
- Tiny Scalloped Succulent Green Leaves
- Forms Dense Mats of Hardy Color
- Weed-Blocking, Ground Covering & Pollinator Friendly!
- Rock Gardens, Pathways, Erosion & Container Filler
#ProPlantTips for Care:
These low-maintenance plants thrive in full sun and well-drained soil and to be kept on the dry side. Water these perennials regularly to get established, afterwards, they only need supplemental watering during times of extreme heat and drought! Thriving in clay soils, gravel, and sand, any soil in full sun that is dry to medium moisture is perfect for these plants! For better moisture retention, add a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch around the root zone to keep more moisture consistency in the soil. Rake gently or prune in the very early spring, and divide clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.
- Easy Care in Full Sun
- Thrives in Heat & Poor Soil
- Well-Drained Soil Conditions
- Moderate Moisture Needs - Low Once Established
- Prune Back In Very Early Spring
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant & Drought Tolerant
If you're looking for an easy plant, then we've got you covered. Don't worry - even if you can't pronounce the name, we'll know what you mean when you order it! Order a Kamtschaticum Sedum from Nature Hills today!
