Give Joan J good drainage and plenty of sun and you'll be picking berries before you know it! Provide at least 6 hours of direct sun and you'll be picking berries sooner than you can imagine! Raspberry plants need good air circulation, and you'll want to access the entire plant to harvest your crop. Add a slow-release fertilizer in early spring, following directions for proper application rates.

Well-drained soils are important, so plant in raised beds to improve drainage. Berry bushes also need regular water. Drip irrigation or soaker hoses are a great time-saver, and a three-inch layer of mulch to cut down on surface evaporation.
