To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Bare Root Plants
Bare root plants are sold by height from the root system to the top of the plant. Plants may exceed minimum height requirements.
Common Sizes:
- Trees: 1 foot, 2 feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, 5 feet, 6 feet
- Shrubs & Perennials: 1 foot, 18 inches, 2 feet

The Japanese Plum Yew (Cephalotaxus harringtonia) is one of the best shade-tolerant evergreen shrubs around! Fine-textured needles are soft to the touch and create beautiful dense year-round greenery!
Evergreen foliage emerges a bright green in early spring and then matures to a gorgeous deep bluish-green. The perfect backdrop for the tiny white blossoms and red jewel fruit that forms, only on female bushes if a male is planted nearby. Not to mention a fantastic backdrop for other plants and shrubs too!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These low-maintenance evergreens do best in USDA zones 6 through 9. Tolerating more sun in cooler climates, Japanese Plum Yew prefers shaded sites, protected from the afternoon sun.
Drought tolerant and low water usage once established, these are great Xeric shrubs for hotter climates. Moderately moist soil and moderate fertility, these shrubs are not particular on soil type so long as it is well-drained. Mulch is always a great addition to topdress your trees and shrubs to reduce the need for watering and insulate the roots.
- Plum Yews are shade tolerant, preferring full shade to part shade
- Very well-drained soil that’s moderately fertile is best
- Healthy growth rate!
- Female shrubs will have fruit if a male is nearby
- When to prune Yews is in early spring or late winter before you see new growth. Shear lightly in summer if you are creating a manicured hedge.
