Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Lush glossy green crowns, Gorgeous bright-green fronds form upright verdant clumps of finely-textured greenery! The Japanese Beech Fern (Phegopteris decursive-pinnata) is a spreading groundcover Fern that adds lush beauty to shady gardens!

Lovely upright clumps of incised green pinnate fronds, slowly spread to colonize an area, filling any area with vibrant color. If you live in a warmer growing zone, these can be semi-evergreen in warmer climates!

With a wide range of habitats and conditions and many soil and moisture tolerances, Beech Ferns thrive near water sources or in dry soil once established. Hardy in a wide range of growing zones 4-9, these perennial Ferns add soothing lushness to their environment! Growing up to 2 feet in height and 18 inches wide at maturity, these are ideal for small spaces.

Planting and Application:

Ferns always bring a calming element to any garden space! Dappled shade, tree-lined understories, and shade gardens become magical wonderlands with a carpet of cooling greenery. Mix among other shade-loving perennials for a shady mixed border.

Great for underplanting beneath trees and shrubs for a woodland feel, these naturalize readily, yet politely to fill large spaces. Allow to ramble around a shaded Rock Garden or fill in borders along paths and line a shaded drive in greenery. Likewise able to handle moist sites, Japanese Beech Ferns also do well in moist lowlands, Rain Gardens, and other high-moisture areas.

Tolerant of coastal conditions and moist soil, plant these around water features, brooks, and ponds. Lovely as edging along gardens to ease the transition between lawn and landscaping beds, or as skirting around garden structures and gazebos, porches, and arbors, providing that finishing touch!

Small enough for container gardening and as lacy fringe around a feature plant as a colorful skirt, filler, and spillers! Plant a few of these stellar Ferns in your potted accents on porches, patios, and balconies.

  • Verdant Green Finely Pinate Leaves
  • Gorgeous Upright Fern & Mounded Crowns
  • Slow Spreading Groundcover
  • Semi-Evergreen in Warm Zones
  • Shade Gardens, Borders & Water Features

#ProPlantTips for Care:

These Ferns prefer part to full shade, favoring morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in the warmer growing zones, but handle more sun in cooler climates. Tolerant of both heat and cold, in areas with warm summers, you'll enjoy seeing your Fern remain semi-evergreen through mild winters.

Plant in a well-drained rich medium in highly organic soil on the acidic side. Preferring moist soil, these Ferns can tolerate dry shade once established. However, for the healthiest-looking plants and to protect your investment, provide supplemental watering in times of heat and drought and a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch over the root system.

Plant with Nature Hills Root Booster so the symbiotic support can start working with the plant's roots for the life of the plant. Prune in early spring to trim off any winter damage and divide every 3-5 years to keep the clumps growing vigorously. Provide a location with good air circulation and always clean dead fronds once they have died back for the winter or very early spring. These easy deciduous ground cover beauties add luxurious greenery to any shaded landscape!

  • Cold Hardy In Full Shade & Part Shade
  • Moist to Dry Shade
  • Tolerates Wet Soil & Acidic Sites
  • Wide Range of Tolerance
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant
