Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

No matter how tough your climate … chances are great you can achieve the kind of shaded backyard paradise you've always dreamed of. Well, introducing the Imperial Honeylocust Tree (Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis 'Impcole') that takes on those hard conditions head first (or rather root first?) and grows into a healthy, rounded lawn tree your whole family will enjoy!

No need to stress about surface roots or prickly thorns with this modern cultivar! Instead, you'll gain tiny, fragrant spring flowers, and fern-like pinnately compound leaves that cast pretty shade but still allow the lawn to thrive underneath.

Imperial Honeylocust even provides a brilliant golden-yellow fall color to brighten up the tail end of the growing season. And it's a breeze to clean up after these small compound leaflets, too!

This rugged selection resists wind and winter damage and can tolerate brief periods of drought after the first few seasons. It can be planted in new construction sites with compacted soil. No matter what - Imperial grows! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 7, there's little that fazes this tough deciduous tree!

Planting and Application:

Honeylocust trees are your "Perfect Lawn Trees"! Front and backyards gain fast shade and curb appeal! Use an Imperial at the southwestern part of your property to reduce your cooling costs. In a larger space, create a personal park with several scattered informally to take advantage of natural hills and dips in your property.

Honeylocust trees partner well with other trees, too. Add a mix of smaller flowering trees and evergreens with your Imperial Honeylocust for an exceptional display that requires very little care. Your lawn will even grow happily beneath the dappled light shade!

Honeylocusts are durable and rugged enough to be used in commercial plantings, parking lots, and as street trees along the road without worry the roots will get into trouble!

  • Beautiful Form & Thornless Cultivar
  • Light, Refreshing Shade
  • Ferny Small Leaves & Easy to Clean in Fall
  • Brilliant Yellow Fall Color
  • Deep Root System Great Around Sidewalks & Driveways
  • Great Lawn Trees, Street Trees & Shade!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This cultivar of the hardy and resilient native tree thrives in full sun and nearly any type of well-drained soil. Provide moderate regular moisture for new trees, but once established, Honeylocust trees are very drought-tolerant. Top the soil with a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch - especially when planted in the lawn. Create a buffer zone extending 3-4 feet from the trunk to protect the bark from mower and weed-wacker damage. Prune to shape your young tree in late winter.

  • Full Sun Deciduous Tree
  • Highly Adaptable to Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
  • Prune When Dormant
  • Handsome Tree is Tough as Nails
  • Heat Tolerant & Waterwise Once Established
