Ready for something truly unique to add height to your landscape? The Unique PeeGee Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Unique') features extremely tall flower panicles that present an incredible floral display in late summer and last through frost! The flowers bloom white, maturing to pink in fall and elongating to an amazing 8 inches in length, forming at the tips of every branch!

These tall candle-like spires are a butterfly favorite and will be yours too as the sturdy stems look great in a tall vase! Pollinators adore the blossoms and you'll love the upright form of these vibrant shrubs! Filling out in spring in a flush of quilted, toothy foliage, even when not in bloom it's an impressive sight!

These ornamental flowering bushes reach an airy 6-10 feet in height and width and feature very strong upright stems. You'll certainly make an impact with this spectacular deciduous specimen! Very cold-hardy in USDA growing zones 3-8, Panicle Hydrangeas are very adaptable to heat, cold and weather conditions.

Planting and Application:

This upright rounded Hydrangea has dark green foliage and is an excellent accent plant! What's more, Panicle Hydrangea is smaller than its big sister the PeeGee Hydrangea, you can alternate these lovely shrubs with each other for a unique white and pink flowering display that blocks out the hectic world and dampens sound and wind! These are high-impact flowering shrubs that are sure to show off for you every year!

PeeGee flowers are good for drying and preserving, so they're ideal in cutting gardens and areas you need high-impact summer blooms and long-lasting winter interest. It is most at home along the edge of a sunny wooded border or where the landscape is loose and informal. Great for attracting wildlife and birds, the sheltering dense branching is prime nesting property! The blooms attract butterflies, bees and even a hummingbird or two!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Panicle Hydrangea does best in full sun and partial shade, favoring morning sun. If you are in the hottest of its favored growing zones, provide afternoon shade from the brunt of the summer sun. Keep the soil moderately moist and top dress with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch chips. You may prune every year, for size and to remove old growth, but no more than 1/3 of the plant. Only prune in the very early spring or you'll accidentally remove next year's blooms! These plants look best when they are kept pruned to keep them thick at the base. They are hardy and will not need to be covered to flower. PeeGee is easy to grow and they will tolerate less than ideal soil conditions.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Moderate Moisture & Mulch
  • Cold Hardy Woody Shrub
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Easy Care & Low Maintenance

Brighten your landscape with the Unique PeeGee Panicle Hydrangea from the flowering shrub experts at NatureHills.com! You'll be thrilled with the color, reliability and size of this impressive specimen so order as soon as possible!

pee-gee hydrangas

I am sure i bought a pee gee hydranga. Not from you. My bush attracts many many bees. I do not recall reading it on the info for my bush and i noticed you did not state it in your remarks. Hello Joan,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with your PeeGee Hydrangea. We truly appreciate your feedback—it helps us continually improve the information we provide to our customers. Bees are indeed naturally attracted to many hydrangea varieties, especially when in full bloom, as they seek nectar and pollen. While our product descriptions may not always highlight this, it is a good reminder that these lively pollinators are part of a healthy garden ecosystem.

If having bees near high-traffic areas is a concern, you might consider placing your hydrangea a bit further from walkways or adding some complementary plants to help redirect pollinator activity. Our planting guides offer useful tips on layout and garden design to help minimize inconvenience while supporting beneficial insects.

Thanks again for your thoughtful note—your careful gardening efforts bring richness to any home landscape!

Rooting for your garden’s success,
Your Nature Hills Plant Care Team

Hi Joan,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with your PeeGee Hydrangea. We truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback. While the Unique PeeGee Panicle Hydrangea typically attracts fewer pollinators than some other hydrangeas, it’s not uncommon for any flowering shrub to draw in bees and other pollinators to some degree, especially when in full bloom. We completely understand your concern about planting it near walkways—that entertainment of busy bees might be less desirable in high-traffic areas.

For future reference or at planting time, placing your hydrangeas in a spot where people can enjoy their beauty from a short distance might help keep unexpected encounters with pollinators at a minimum. Additionally, attractive fragrant companion plants nearby can sometimes help direct bees away from pathways, or you might consider gently informing family and visitors to exercise a bit of caution while the plant is in bloom.

If you ever want some personalized advice on space planning or testing out alternatives less likely to attract pollinators, just reach out—we’re always here to help guide you through your garden’s unique microenvironment.

Thanks again for your valuable insights—they help us ensure our plant descriptions serve gardeners like you even better!

Bloom on,
The Nature Hills Plant Knowledge Team
