Folded, upright leaves that resemble praying hands, the Praying Hands Hosta (Hosta 'Praying Hands') is a fascinating new Hosta with an unusual form that definitely makes it a collector's Hosta!

The upright, narrow, tightly folded leaves resemble hands folded in prayer. The folded leaves reveal the prominent veining on the back side of the leaves. Praying Hands has dark green leaves and are also heavily rippled with a thin, gold margin. Displays lavender flowers in late summer. A must-have for any gardener looking for something unique!

Also known as Plantain Lily, Hosta are hardy perennials that thrive in cold, heat, and humidity in USDA growing zones 3 to 9, and ask so very little from you in terms of maintenance and care and are perfect for even the most novice gardeners!

Planting and Application:

The interesting form and diminutive size make Praying Hands Hosta ideal for accent plantings and groupings in the shade. Use as low edging along garden beds and borders! The folded foliage looks amazing in a shaded garden! Define your spaces with straight or winding rows, or create groupings that draw the eye! Even en masse groundcover plantings of these vivid, low-maintenance perennials has a huge impact for very little work!

Plant these unique specimens in the cottage border, perennial shade garden, or pollinator garden! These feed many nectar-seeking bees, beneficial pollinators, butterflies, and even Hummingbirds! The smaller size means any garden or even a container garden can enjoy these curious perennial foliage ornamentals! Accent your covered porch and shaded patio seating areas by planting Praying Hands in containers and planters alike! Even large window boxes and balcony container gardens benefit from the unique upright foliage!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Preferring part shade/sun in cooler climates, and full shade in the hottest of its favored climates. Plant Praying Hands in an area that receives morning sun to bring out the best coloration but appreciates afternoon sun. These herbaceous Perennials grow best in enriched, moist well-drained soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Add a 3 - 4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Deadhead Hostas as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it's time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide your Hosta clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

  • Full Shade Perennial Also Tolerates Partial Shade
  • Moist Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Low-Maintenance & Remarkably Easy Care
  • Deadhead After Flowering & Prune Late Fall After Frost
  • Cold Hardy & Humidity Tolerant

Add a touch of unique texture and form to your garden with the collector-worthy Praying Hands Hosta from Nature Hills today!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Hostas need full sun or shade?

Hosta does best in full sun in cooler climates but does appreciate afternoon protection from the worst of the summer sun, especially in the hottest of their growing zone range. In the hottest climates, Hosta like partial shade or dappled shade, and some varieties will do great in full shade.

Where do Hostas grow best?

Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.

Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?

With vigorous carefree growth, Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants that will return year after year with little maintenance.

What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?

Hosta leaves will die back after frost but the crowns and roots remain intact and dormant until next spring. Prune back the leaves once they turn brown in the autumn and remove them from the plant's area. For winter protection, add a layer of compost or mulch over the crowns to protect them from the chill.

Do Hosta attract hummingbirds or pollinators?

Hostas are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
