Growing Zones 3-9
Broad, puckered, heart-shaped leaves, the Lakeside Shore Master Hosta (Hosta 'Lakeside Shore Master') is a vigorous growing and eye-catching member of the Lakeside series of Hostas! Lakeside Shore Master commands attention in the garden with its broadly ovate blue-green leaves that develop rich ivory to yellow centers.
At maturity, the leaves display some puckering. In midsummer, it produces lavender flowers that are trumpet-shaped and rise upon tall slender scapes. They’re perfectly poised to attract pollinators and hummingbirds galore, and even look great in cut flower bouquets!
An impressive and easy-to-maintain Hosta for gardeners of all levels, Lakeside Shore Master is a good grower, makes a very handsome mound, and brightens up a shady area throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9. Growing nearly 2 feet in height and spreading to a tidy 3 feet in width.
Planting and Application:
Plant this strong, vigorous bicolored beauty in the shade garden where everyone can enjoy it! It's great for those garden beds underneath backyard shade trees whose canopy casts more shade than lets the sun shine through.
Skirting large shrubs and trees with these lovely perennials will equally benefit from the generous shade they provide and will look better having their bare stems hidden with these facer plants from view without the worry about roots interfering with each other! Contemporary plantings and informal cottage gardens alike benefit from these large perennials and other shade-loving plants. Borders look divine with long rows of Hosta skirting and tidying up their edges. So will your driveway and walkways, and shady paths.
Lakeside Shore Master is ideal for shady containers, patio pots in the dappled shade around your patio, or even a shaded balcony that will benefit from the graceful presence of these impressive plants. The color combo and eye-catching growth will decorate garden rooms with sculptural décor!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant Shore Master Hosta in an area that receives the right amount of light. The leaves need some morning sun to bring the rich color out. Too much sun will burn the leaves. It grows well in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. When watering, it's important to lift up the leaves so the moisture can reach the roots directly underneath. Sometimes when watering from overhead, the leaves can act as an umbrella, leaving the roots as dry as they were before watering.
Low maintenance, there's not much work for you! Once frosts arrive, Hosta is an herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground and emerges again in early spring. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. Be sure to remove dead leaf matter from the area to prevent the spread of fungal issues and deter slugs. But it has excellent slug resistance and no disease issues! Divide your perennials every 3-5 years to maintain vigor. Shore Master shows good slug resistance in the landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Hostas need full sun or shade?
Hosta does best in full sun in cooler climates but does appreciate afternoon protection from the worst of the summer sun, especially in the hottest of their growing zone range. In the hottest climates, Hosta like partial shade or dappled shade, and some varieties will do great in full shade.
Where do Hostas grow best?
Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.
Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?
With vigorous carefree growth, Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants that will return year after year with little maintenance.
What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?
Hosta leaves will die back after frost but the crowns and roots remain intact and dormant until next spring. Prune back the leaves once they turn brown in the autumn and remove them from the plant's area. For winter protection, add a layer of compost or mulch over the crowns to protect them from the chill.
Do Hosta attract hummingbirds or pollinators?
Hostas are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
