This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Color-changing leaves on a small and tidy plant, the High Society Hosta (Hosta 'High Society') is a classy sport of the fantastic June Hosta! This compact beauty barely reaches 8 inches tall and 15 inches wide at maturity!

High Society emerges in spring with a narrow, yellow center and wide, powder blue-green margins for a unique and showy display! As the season progresses, the High Society does a wardrobe change, and the leaf centers widen and brighten to white!

Pale lavender flowers open just above the mound of foliage in late summer and attract plenty of winged socialites and gentlemen callers in the form of fancily dressed butterflies, bees, and Hummingbirds!

Small and slow growing, but is worth the wait, High Society is sure to make a fantastic specimen throughout USDA growing zone 3 to 9 landscapes in the shade! Staying small and tidy, Hosta forms neat fountain-like mounds that are impressively easy to grow for even the most novice or busiest gardeners!

Planting and Application:

This little compact beauty has the power to add a great amount of color to a small space! Being a small-sized Hosta, it is great for containers or the front of a border. High Society is a low-care perennial and is ideal for shady-positioned planter tubs and patio pots for container gardeners and balcony gardens! The cool coloration and eye-catching growth will decorate garden rooms with sculptural décor.

One of the most popular landscape uses for Hostas are as edging and in groupings throughout the shade garden! Basking in the shade of larger shrubs and trees, Hosta are lovely skirting and fringe, plus ideal facer plants at the bases of leggy plants and the shaded foot of a hedge or wall. Light up your shaded foundation sides, edge paths and walkways, or brighten garden edges to ease the transition between lawn and garden!

Create your own shade-loving perennial display with Ferns, Astilbe, Coral Bells, and of course, other Hosta! Butterfly gardens, Cut flower gardens, and your Cottage gardens get a traditional look with the addition of a few of these bi-color perennials! Fringe shady hardscapes, or ring pergolas or gazebos in cool, soothing foliage. Add a garden bench and relax in your own private oasis or covered outdoor garden room!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This low-care herbaceous Perennial is ideal for shady positions. Filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth and they appreciate the morning sun it will help to intensify the leaf colors, and need afternoon shade. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch to the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Deadhead Hostas as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it's time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide your Hosta every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

  • Full Shade Perennial Also Tolerates Partial Shade
  • Moist Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Low-Maintenance & Remarkably Easy Care
  • Deadhead After Flowering
  • Prune Late Fall
  • Extremely Cold Hardiness & Humidity Tolerant

Kick up your garden social circle a few notches this year with the addition of a few High Society Hostas today! Hurry and reserve yours at Nature Hills as soon as they are available, they won't be for long!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Hostas need full sun or shade?

Hosta does best in full sun in cooler climates but does appreciate afternoon protection from the worst of the summer sun, especially in the hottest of their growing zone range. In the hottest climates, Hosta like partial shade or dappled shade, and some varieties will do great in full shade.

Where do Hostas grow best?

Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.

Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?

With vigorous carefree growth, Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants that will return year after year with little maintenance.

What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?

Hosta leaves will die back after frost but the crowns and roots remain intact and dormant until next spring. Prune back the leaves once they turn brown in the autumn and remove them from the plant's area. For winter protection, add a layer of compost or mulch over the crowns to protect them from the chill.

Do Hosta attract hummingbirds or pollinators?

Hostas are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
