Celestial starts out with dark-green leaves with a greenish-yellow color swept across the margins, and then brightens to a creamy white in the summer. Celestial needs high-filtered or dappled sunlight for clean, healthy growth, and prefer the morning sun to intensify the leaf colors, but the hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to Hostas! Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Be sure to remove dead leaf litter from under your plant for the best results. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

Low maintenance, there's not much work for you! Once frosts arrive, Hosta is an herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground and emerges again in early spring. Be sure to remove dead leaf matter from the area to prevent the spread of fungal issues and deter slugs. But it has excellent slug resistance and no disease issues! Divide your perennials every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.
