Stunning leaves, easy-care, and made for the shade, the Albomarginata Hosta (Hosta undulata 'Albomarginata') has soft green leaves with showy white bands, making it a very striking specimen indeed! With lovely variegated, gardeners across the country grabbing these up.

This Hostas pale lilac to lavender flowers bloom from July to August and call loads of pollinators and Hummingbirds to stop by for a visit and sip the nectar! However, Hostas are not known only for their flowers, but for their bright foliage color shade with wonderful foliage. Albomarginata, meaning white-margined, and these showy two-toned ornamentals flash their brilliant white edges in the shade.

Also known as Plantain Lilies, Hostas are versatile and highly adaptable perennials! Thriving throughout a wide range of conditions, including cold, heat, humidity, and urban environments, these herbaceous perennials grow in USDA planting zones 3 to 8 without much fazing them! Create large swaths of brilliant color and tidy mounding ground-covering ease of care. Ideal fringe as facer plants and edging, long rows of leafy Hostas become the finishing touch along paths and garden sides!

You don't even need a large landscape to enjoy these vivid plants! A single specimen lights up the perennial garden, and groupings call pollinators in the Cottage border. A large planter or planting tub becomes the highlight of the balcony and container gardeners' collection! Pot up and place around shaded poolside seating, covered patios and porches, or your shady front stoop!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant this low-care Perennial in an area that receives the right amount of light, preferring the morning sun to bring out the best coloration. Albomarginata thrives in full shade in all growing zones because too much sun will burn the leaves. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Top-dress with a 3 - 4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Snip off Hostas blooms as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it's time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide the clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor. It is best to keep areas around Hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails.

  • Full Shade Perennial
  • Moist Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Low-Maintenance & Remarkably Easy Care
  • Deadhead After Flowering & Prune Late Fall After Frost
  • Remarkably Easy Care, Cold & Heat Hardy & Humidity Tolerant!

Bold variegation and bright color in the shade, the unique Albomarginata Hosta from Nature Hills Nursery will leave you speechless as it lights up the shade! Order yours today!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Hostas need full sun or shade?

Hosta does best in full sun in cooler climates but does appreciate afternoon protection from the worst of the summer sun, especially in the hottest of their growing zone range. In the hottest climates, Hosta like partial shade or dappled shade, and some varieties will do great in full shade.

Where do Hostas grow best?

Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.

Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?

With vigorous carefree growth, Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants that will return year after year with little maintenance.

What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?

Hosta leaves will die back after frost but the crowns and roots remain intact and dormant until next spring. Prune back the leaves once they turn brown in the autumn and remove them from the plant's area. For winter protection, add a layer of compost or mulch over the crowns to protect them from the chill.

Do Hosta attract hummingbirds or pollinators?

Hostas are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
