Where to Plant

  • Soil: These trees prefer deep, well-drained loamy soil that allows roots to breathe. If you have heavy clay, plant your tree in a raised mound or a large container to ensure the "feet" of the tree do not stay soggy and rot.

Watering Requirements

During the first two growing seasons, water your tree deeply twice a week to help the root system move into the surrounding soil. Once the Honey Halo is established, it can handle short dry spells, but inconsistent moisture during fruit development often leads to the nectarines splitting or dropping early. Aim for a consistent "moist sponge" feel in the soil rather than a cycle of bone-dry to soaking wet.

Pruning Tips

This nectarine blooms on "old wood" produced during the previous summer, so you should prune in late winter while the tree is still dormant.
