The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Get ready for improved shade and curb appeal with the new and improved Homestead Elm Tree (Ulmus x 'Homestead')! This fantastic urban landscaping tree is a rapid grower with a symmetrical, pyramidal crown that becomes arching as the tree matures, creating the typical Elm tree family's graceful, vase-shaped, almost weeping form!
The dark green leaves have delightfully textured toothy serrated edges that cast lush shade over your home and yard all spring and summer long! The green leaves then turn the traditional Elm golden yellow in autumn! Its young stems are brown to gray while older bark is smooth and gray, becoming fissured in advanced age.
This USDA introduction is highly resistant to Dutch Elm disease! Elms have always been popular street trees for their tolerance to urban conditions, and a wide variety of soil conditions, and are largely pest-resistant, fast-growing deciduous trees!
How to Use Elm in the Landscape
Homestead is great as a lawn specimen and a lasting legacy tree that will grace your yard while boosting curb appeal for decades! Situate yours just so and watch as your home's cooling costs drop! The strong limbs and lush shade are perfect for use near (but not too close) seating areas, porches, and a backyard hammock!
Tolerating urban pollution and roadside conditions, if you have the space, bring back the great American shaded boulevard by using Homestead as a regal street tree! Or mix this tree and its strong limbs to your mixed windbreak where its fast growth will bulk up the planting quickly.

#ProPlantTips for Care
This Hybrid Elm is highly adaptable to many well-drained soils and does best in full sun. It will need at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Once established, Regal becomes adaptable to alkaline soil, and draining clay soil. These are hardy trees that only need regular water during their first year or so in the ground but can become tolerant of dry sites, occasional drought, occasional flooding, and road salt.
Use Nature Hills Root Booster when planting. This time-tested formula includes mycorrhizal fungus to create a symbiotic relationship with tiny feeder roots. Give your tree this support for optimal access to water and soil nutrients...forever!
Support your tree and keep it stress-free by providing supplemental moisture during prolonged drought and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around its entire root system. Prune to correct growth and remove broken branches in the late winter or very early spring.
- Full Sun Deciduous Tree
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Prune When Dormant In Late Winter
- Widely Adaptable Cold & Heat
Lasting shade, curb appeal, and legacy, the Homestead Hybrid Elm Tree brings back the American classic with new and improved updated resistance! Now available at NatureHills.com!
