Of all the Iris colors and patterns, browns and coppers are often sought after most of all! With a single glance at the Hermes Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Hermes'), it's easy to see why! This copper-top beauty is a herald of good news and splendid hues full of ruffles and gilded splashes on the falls.
There's no Iris quite like the Hermes Iris. This mid-spring bloomer reinvents the spring garden with its avant-garde burnt sienna hues. Each of its blooms is breathtakingly large and rich in detail. Its falls feature variations of copper with thin brown veins and a golden flame, and its vibrant orange beard creates a stunning focal point!
From its undulating ruffled standards to its flamboyant style arm, this Iris is all show and style. Its striking appearance offers hours of examination and adoration. It's no wonder the herald of the gods became the namesake of this Tall Bearded Iris! Growing 32 inches in height when in bloom, Hermes spreads into vertical leafy clumps 12 - 18 inches wide!
Planting and Application:
To make the most of this ravishing coppery Iris, you'll want to plant several together in groupings and en masse drifts. You'll also want to place this stylish flower where it can be appreciated day after day! Both by garden visitors, and your Hummingbirds and pollinators, plus giving you plenty of these gorgeous blossoms for your bouquets!
No matter where this brilliant Iris ends up in your garden, it's sure to be a favorite among the butterflies and bees. Just provide it with full or partial sun and plant it root-down on a small mound of soil, then cover its roots to just below the top of its rhizome. For best protection, cover it with mulch in late fall after it's established.
Consider using this stunner as a one-of-a-kind border or as a spectacular mixed planter thriller! A radiant feature in your mixed Perennial, Border Garden, or Cottage garden. Because of its ability to thrive in low-moisture soil, it also makes a dramatic addition to your Rock garden where its low moisture needs once established can be appreciated.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Flowering their very best in full sun, Iris in hotter climates appreciate afternoon shade. Any well-drained soil with regular moderate moisture access is suitable for these rhizomes since they despise soggy soil. All plants appreciate 3-4 inches of arborist mulch around their root systems, and Bearded Iris are actually drought tolerant once established!
Divide every few years and it's recommended you deadhead after the flowers fade. Trim all the foliage back in the autumn once it yellows and cover the rhizomes loosely with compost, mulch, or evergreen boughs for the winter. Deer, Rabbits, and Squirrels seldom eat these perennials or their rhizomes.
Information About Bare Root Iris
Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.
Be sure to set your Iris up for success by planting it in the fall in a shallow hole with a hill of soil at its center. Place the rhizome on the mound and bury the lower 2/3's, leaving the top of the rhizome exposed. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover it in the spring.
