Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Graceful, airy, and vibrant green, the Hayscented Fern (Dennstaedtia punctilobula) is a unique woodland plant with fragrant fronds. This hardy native has uniformly triangular leaves that are deeply cut leaflets, divided further into smaller leaflets yet!

Lovely light green to yellow-green, lush foliage carpet areas in both shade and sun. In fall, the fronds take on a russet golden hue and blend in with the autumn colors all around the shady areas of your garden! Spreading to form colonies of airy, upward arching fronds, Hayscented Fern fills dreary shaded corners with incredible lushness!

These easy-to-grow Ferns are highly rabbit and deer-resistant, these incredibly fast-growing, ground covers are tolerant in a wide range of conditions! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8, these perennial deciduous Ferns handle a wide range of climates and conditions! A native Fern throughout the Northeastern US and Eastern Midwest, these are highly adaptable!

Planting and Application:

A native colonizer that covers the ground fast! Also called the Hay-Scented Fern, it is perfect for filling in and between your garden beds and along the edges of the wood. Spreading vigorously by rhizomes in the dappled shade, full shade, and sun, and colonizes en masse with ease.

An amazingly verdant groundcover, waste areas, and shady edges along your shed, garage, and foundations, Hayscented fronds spill and ramble around Rock Gardens and Cottage plantings. Wild areas become lush expanses that soothe the senses in 2-foot-tall lacy spears without the worry deer and rabbits will move in!

Adding sophisticated texture to your garden and large planters, Hayscented Fern provides low screening and privacy around patios and along your larger beds and borders. These hardy natives are typically found rambling along open woods, Rain Gardens, and along shaded river banks.

Plant near where you can brush against it or the breeze can carry the fresh sweet smell of mown hay! Add a few of the fronds to your floral bouquets to enjoy their scent and greenery!

  • Graceful, Finely-Cut Lacy, Light Green Fresh Fronds
  • Upward Arching Fountain Growth
  • Scented Like Freshly Mown Grass!
  • Golden-Russet Fall Color
  • Deciduous Groundcover, Containers, Woodland & Naturalizing Accent
  • Hardy U.S. Native Fern

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Ferns are easy to maintain and incredibly low maintenance, but also disease and pest-free. Hayscented Ferns can handle the densest shade in warmer climates and full sun in cooler areas, these natives are found naturalizing. These are incredibly tolerant, resilient, and adaptable plants that we're sure will make themselves right at home in your landscape!

Their sun tolerance depends on their access to moisture and your climate - more water and cooler climates mean Hayscented Fern can take more sun! Typically enjoying consistent moisture and humidity for the healthiest plants possible. Doing best in rich humus that is well-drained, Hayscented Fern even tolerates rocky soil as long as it has plenty of organic matter.

Add Nature Hills Root Booster during planting, because the symbiotic ingredients work non-stop over the life of the plant.

Living up to 10 years, these are vibrant and tough Ferns. Hardy and disease resistant, pest-free, and stand up to deer and rabbit browse. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. These evergreen Ferns clumps may be divided in spring, but this is seldom required. Though enjoying to spread, they're easily controlled and cared for.

  • Full Shade, Full Sun (in cool growing zones) & Part Shade
  • Tolerates Poor Soil
  • Moderate to Moisture Loving
  • Easy Care & Low Maintenance
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant

Sometimes a plant performs just a bit too well in certain areas. Rest assured, Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to track all federal, state, and local regulations on invasive materials.
