Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

With a 700 chill hour requirement and a late bloom period, Harcot Apricot (Prunus armeniaca 'Harcot') trees resist frost and are an excellent choice for cold climates. Sweet, freestone apricots are suited for all applications, including: fresh eating, canning, baking and drying.

You'll love this small-statured tree for it's prolific harvest. It's a gorgeous sight in springtime, too...covered in an eye-catching cloud of fragrant pink flowers.

Planting and Application:

Over the next few months, the blooms develop into medium-sized, red-skinned apricots that are both juicy and sweet. Use their rich favor in all your prized, Blue Ribbon recipes or blend them for smoothies!

  • Developed in Canada, Harcot is a boon for Northern gardeners. Plant them on a north-facing slope if you can to slow the flower bud development and ensure they have plenty of air circulation for best results.
  • Harcot Apricot trees are self-pollinating, so you'll only need one to achieve a fruiting harvest. However, we do recommend that you consider adding another cultivar nearby; as this will really increase the yields of both trees.
  • In small scale gardens, consider using high-density summertime pruning techniques to keep your fruit trees smaller. Many large property owners prefer this, as well...it makes harvest a lot easier!
  • Harcot apricots are also considered a connoisseur's favorite for taste. With high natural fruit sugar, they are also pleasing for picky kids; even when dried or made into fruit leather.
  • It's blessed with disease-resistance to common Apricot tree concerns, such as brown rot. Harcot fruit trees are a healthy, easy-care and delicious addition to a backyard orchard.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Choose to plant in a spot with well-drained soil, good air circulation and full sun where your trees will receive at least six hours of sunlight a day. Symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster formula can be added to the planting hole for life-long support of the tiny feeder roots.

  • Give it a consistent schedule of water as needed during fruit development. Read the NatureHills.com Garden Blog to get more pro tips on watering plants.
  • Prune in late winter to establish the framework of structural branches; prune to control size in summer if you plan to maintain smaller fruiting trees. Once your Harcot Apricot trees are old enough to produce a substantial harvest...you'll want to take time to thin the young fruits early in the season to allow room for mature fruit.
  • Keep a three-inch layer of mulch around the trunk, pulled back away from directly touching the stems. Add high-quality fertilizer in early spring; following the instructions on the label.
