Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. All the majesty and adaptability of Panicum, in a neat and tidy little package! Introducing the Half Pint Switch Grass PPAF (Panicum virgatum 'Half Pint') with its vertical growth and airy rose-hued seedheads, this takes everything you love about Switch Grass and packs it into a 3-foot-tall bundle!
The super dense and upright form is very compact for a Switch Grass!Half Pint features no flop vertical stems and foliage, emerging a variety of green shades throughout the growing season with an interesting grayish overcast. The clumps form 1 ½ - 2 ½ foot wide columns that become yellow and orange for the fall, before turning tan for the winter months. Plus you'll enjoy long fall and winter interest as this grass defies wind and snow.
Birds love to flit through ornamental grass and take shelter in their blades to hide from wind and storms! Keeping all of its native adaptability and versatility, Switch Grass grows throughout USDA hardiness zones 4 to 8, defying heat and cold, disease, drought, and even occasionally wet feet.
Landscape Application:
Half Pint is ideal for modern lots and smaller yards where a non-dwarf Switch Grass will completely overshadow the rest of the landscape! Ideal as a specimen plant that brings swaying motion and white noise to any garden!
The airy cloud of pinkish seedheads floating above the gray-green vertical growth makes this smaller grass a fantastic space-saving backdrop and lower screening hedge for more polite privacy and property definition. Create an inviting outdoor room by planting a row of Switch Grass around seating areas, reading and meditation nooks, the pool and sunbathing areas, and around a firepit to feel more secluded without making the neighbors feel you're hiding from them entirely.
Switch Grass is incredibly versatile and melds with almost all styles and color palettes as well as every type of sunny landscape condition you may encounter. From Xeric and Rock Garden type soil to pampered Cottage and wildflower gardens, in smaller prairie and native borders and bioswales, and even the outskirts of a pond or water feature. Stabilizing banks and slowing erosion anywhere you plant this Half Pint!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Switch Grass is a warm-season grass so it may take a bit to get going in the spring, but thrive through the heat and full sun of the summer months. Plant Panicum in about any kind of well-drained soil where it will thrive. Give new plants a regular schedule of moderate moisture access and a mulched bed for best results but Panicum are drought tolerant once established.
Wait until early spring (before new growth emerges) to bundle up the entire clump and cut back to about 6 inches above the ground. Rake out the interior and divide clumps every 3-5 years to maintain their vigor.
