Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The Yaku Jima Maiden Grass (Miscanthus sinensis 'Yaku Jima') is compact grass with fine textured foliage. Soft green all summer, it turns reddish brown in the fall and remains attractive well into winter! The reddish flowers are showy but not quite as fluffy as most.

Yaku Jima Maiden Grass is a slightly bigger plant than 'Adagio', but the main difference is that its leaves are even narrower, almost needle fine! It is a great warm-season ornamental grass for small gardens! Adding all the benefits of those big and tallgrass prairie-style grasses without taking up precious space!

Miscanthus is easy to grow and is a good choice for beginners. Wonderfully hardy and resilient throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, this Miscanthus forms a 3-4 foot tall cascading clump that is 2-3 feet in width at maturity. You'll enjoy those fringed and silky-looking plumes from August until February for spectacular winter interest!

Planting and Application:

Use as a specimen both as solitary plantings to accentuate your Cottage and perennial gardens, and create focal point groupings throughout the landscape to soften hardscapes and Rock Gardens, while creating motion in the garden. These smaller Ornamental grasses are also gorgeous as spillers and fillers in a container or planter on a sunny porch or patio!

Using Miscanthus en masse and in long winding or straight rows, significantly amplifies their grace and impact on the landscape! Use rows as a border or facer plant to hide the leggy bare stems of larger shrubs and trees. Ease the transition between lawn and garden, add elegant fringe along walkways, or even flow at the water's edge of ponds and water features!

  • Slender Fine-Textured Green Arching Blades
  • Reddish Silky Fringe-Like Plumes
  • Wonderful Winter Interest
  • Smaller Space-Saving Size
  • Containers, Spillers, Edging, Specimen, Both Xeric & Moist Sites

#ProPlantTips For Care

Yaku Jima Grass prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Yaku Jima Maiden Grass is very hardy and low growing, it tolerates a wide range of soil types, is moderately drought tolerant once established, and holds up to wind and snow! Prune the clumps in early spring and clean out their crowns of debris for a fresh start each year. But be patient with warm-season grasses since they take their time emerging in the spring until temperatures are just right.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Grows Anywhere, Even in Wet Soil
  • Plant in Well-Drained Soil
  • Adaptable To a Wide-Range of Conditions
  • Prune Early Spring

Gorgeous and fine-textured, the elegant Yaku Jima Maiden Grass will add that finishing touch to your landscape without sacrificing space! Hurry and order yours today at NatureHills.com!
