This native shrub might look fine-textured and delicate, but it's actually tough as nails. Grow it in full sun as either a wide spreading bush, or a pretty small tree with a bit of creative pruning.
Grancy Greybeard has a soft, sweet, open branching structure. It's grown as a multiple shrub form, meaning without special pruning, it will resemble a bushYou'll want to give this shrub a special spot in the landscape.
Adaptable across a wide range of plant hardiness zones, this rugged plant won't give you a fuss. People love it for its good looks and easy care nature.
Try it even in the heart of the city! These smaller shrubs even handle air pollution and work well even on small lots.
This is often the last bush to leaf out in the spring, but it's well worth the wait. As the green leaves appear, so do those fantastic, fringe-like white spring blooms.
Overall, the effect is charming and eye-catching. Use it as a feature in your early Spring Garden.
Sometimes known as Man Beard or White Fringe tree; it's actually related to the Olive family. It comes in either male or female. Only the females produce inch-long, navy blue fruit drupes.
Look for them in fall, but act quickly. Your local songbirds will snatch them up, so you may miss them altogether!
The dark green leaves are long, wide and shaped like spears. They'll give a lovely, light shade all summer long.
In fall, enjoy a brilliant yellow fall color display. You'll love it's impact all season long.

How to Use Grancy Greybeard in the Landscape
Give this beautiful shrubby plant a special spot. It looks wonderful on the sunny side of established evergreens.
If you have the room, use several of them in an informal grouping. Run them along a woodland, or near a pond.
They also stay small enough to be used under utility lines. Use them in the front yard, or along the driveway.
They'll make a "friendly fence" to boost your privacy, without making you feel penned in. If you allow their lower branches to grow, they'll make great screening plants by early summer.
These can also be spectacular used as a backdrop to a shrub border. Try them with other native plants and support the needs of local butterflies. Grancy Greybeard is a larval host plant for Sphinx moths.
#ProPlantTips for Care

They are very well adapted to sandy soils and acidic soils. However, they will tolerate a wide range of well-drained soils.
Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Please pay close attention to watering while the plant is getting established in your landscape after planting.
Prune after flowering is done to correct shape or remove crossing branches. Open the canopy to sunlight and air circulation as needed.
