Growing Zones 5-9
Get ready for a good time in the garden! Introducing the Good Thyme Thyme (Thymus vulgaris 'Good Thyme') herb which is a fantastic Mediterranean ornamental flowering perennial with loads of tiny, sage-gray-green leaves that look wooly and two-toned, but only if you can see them through all the darling tiny pinkish-lavender blossoms that erupt all over this mat-forming little plant throughout the spring and summer.
Thriving in poor soil and rocky conditions, Thyme is just as at home in the average soil of your landscape but maintains its ease of care and hardy nature! Forming more upright mounds of fine-textured foliage 10-12 inches high and spreading 6-8 inches wide, these herbs form increased, denser branching with periodical harvesting and pinching back.
A fantastic herb with a long history of medicinal and culinary use, the Thyme family has had its praises sung for centuries! And we can see why! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 through 9, this highly aromatic perennial herb has as many versatile uses in our lives as it does in the sun garden!
Planting and Application:
Plant these delightful little herbs anywhere in the sun! Fill Rock Gardens with their fine-textured foliage, grow them along paths and walkways for scented strolls, include them in rockeries and retaining walls, and plant Good Thyme in your Kitchen, Herb, and Knot Gardens. Including these herbs in your Vegetable garden helps deter pests and attracts loads of pollinators when they are in bloom. Especially attractive to bees who arrive for the Thyme, then stick around to help pollinate your other veggies and fruiting plants!
Good Thyme looks fantastic in containers and planters, as an upright-growing scented filler in windowboxes and porch pots alike! Snip fresh sprigs from your own balcony or barbecue pit with pots brimming with fresh Herbs to flavor drinks, as a garnish, or season food! It has a higher yield and intenser fragrance and flavor!
- Tiny Fine-Textured Gray-Green Foliage
- Airy Upright Growth
- Flush of Tiny Pinkish-Lavender Blooms
- Aromatic Culinary & Medicinal Herb
- Edging & Paths, Culinary Gardens, Rock Gardens & Containers
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Thyme loves and needs full sun! It thrives in both arid, sharply drained soils, and average, enriched conditions too. They won't do well in soggy, poorly drained soils, so even container plants need to have well-drained conditions. Provide moderate, regular water for the healthiest, lushest growth and regular fertility if you are harvesting a lot of it for culinary and medicinal use.
A 3-4 inch layer of mulch holds in moisture and enriches the soil slowly over time too. Pinch back during the growing season to increase branching, and prune away winter dieback in early spring. In colder zones, it is recommended to cover your plants with an evergreen bough in November to protect them, especially in exposed locations. It's also recommended that containerized Good Thyme be placed in a protected spot in November too.
- Full Sun Perennial Herb
- Very Well-Drained Soil
- Tolerates Arid/Rocky/Sandy/Poor Soil Conditions
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Pinch Back Often For Branching & Clean/Prune Early Spring
Good Thyme Thyme is a fantastic Winter Thyme that is as highly productive as it is ornamental! Hurry and enjoy Good Thyme in your garden with the help of Nature Hills Nursery!
