Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Who says groundcover isn't exciting? Not us! At least, not when Golden Star (Chrysogonum virginianum) is involved! Combining the best of perennials, natives and groundcover, this is one plant you aren't going to want to miss.

You may have heard it called Green and Gold or even Golden Knee in some regions, but rest assured it's the same plant you've come to know and love. For good reason too.

Once planted, and every spring thereafter, you'll be greeted with a flourish of dense green foliage. It does a fantastic job covering the area you decide.

Of course, that's only half the appeal. Bright yellow daisy-like flowers smother this native from May until well into October in most cases. Talk about the ground cover that keeps on giving.

This five-pointed star-shaped flower features slightly notched petals and brown stamens that contrast nicely against the sunny yellow.

Often you'll find you're low growing plant has semi-evergreen foliage in warmer climates. This means you can enjoy its delightful green leaves long past when other perennials would hang up their seasonal hats.

Not only is the long bloom season perfect for lasting garden color, it's also great news for pollinators like butterflies. They love native plants with bright blossoms!

Should a curious deer or two wander by, don't worry. They tend to leave this variety alone. Use it in parts of your garden often munched on.

Golden Star certainly deserves a spot in any pollinator garden or front perennial garden in place of less showy groundcovers. Order yours today!

How to Use Golden Star in the Landscape

Low growing plants are extremely versatile. They'll fit anywhere without covering up the perennial portrait behind.

If you live next to a wooded area, try planting around the edges of your garden as a transition from grass and planned landscape to the wilderness.

You can also plant in or near your rock gardens. Its green and gold coloring will contrast nicely with the earthy tones of natural river rock!

Plus, its deer-resistant nature means you can use it in your gardens as a border to deter their hungry gaze.

Pollinator gardens are another site you can add Golden Star. Its native status and growth habit makes it the perfect plant to use as a first-level planting.

Do you have a patch of ground around your foundation that might be better off hidden from view? No problem, this vigorously growing groundcover has got you, or your foundation, covered!

#ProPlantTips for Care

There are a couple of different ways you can go about creating the happiest and healthiest plant in this case.

It won't mind being planted in full sun, but you'll want to make sure it's consistently moist. Otherwise, the prolonged sun rays might start to bother the plant.

The best conditions to plant in is part sun or part shade and in moist well-drained soils. If your dirt happens to be rich in organic matter, that's even better!

This perennial is native to the eastern United States from Northern areas to Southern states like Florida and Louisiana, so it's no stranger to wetter living quarters.

Pruning a plant that stays so short is more of a cleaning up than a cutting back. Go ahead and remove its old foliage in the early spring.

Low maintenance, high impact. That's the best way to do gardening! Order your own Golden Star today to complete your seasonal gardening projects!
