To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Seasonally, Nature Hills offers hand selected, high quality bare root trees, shrubs and perennials. Bare root plants are sold by height from the top of the root system to the top of the plant. Plants may be taller than the height minimums.

Golden Currant Shrub (Ribes odoratum) is a native fruiting shrub that will please your avian visitors with sweet-tart black berries in summer! Also known as Clove Currant and Missouri Currant, its delightfully pollinator-friendly trumpet-shaped flowers attract hummingbirds too! The berries are vital food for birds on female plants. Both female and male plants have darling blooms and will be ideal ornamental shrubs with their uniquely textured and shaped leaves!
The sunny, golden-yellow flowers appear in spring and emit a strong clove-like fragrance. Uniquely lobed, hand-shaped foliage is medium green to blue-green before turning yellow in fall. Soon the golden berries form in gleaming clusters and transform into red and then shiny black fruit. These Gooseberry relatives are bird-friendly food and shelter if you don't eat them all yourself!
Easy to grow Currants were an important food source for Plains Indians, The fruits can be eaten fresh or dried, mixed with dried buffalo meat or venison to make pemmican, or cooked into pies or jelly, they're rich in vitamins and antioxidants! Unlike many other Currants, Golden Currant shrubs are thornless for pain-free picking! Golden Current has both male and female flower parts and is self-fruitful. But it is always a good idea to have more than one plant to increase pollination and fruit set. Please note, that it may take a few years for the plants to develop enough wood to produce fruit.
Planting and Application:
Group several to ensure fruit, otherwise, a single specimen still puts on a brilliant gold spring show and provides refuge for birds and wildlife. Golden Currant forms thickets to form wildlife habitat, cover, nesting, and shelter as well as near water features and in moist soil locations. Even tolerating occasional flooding, plant in a Rain Garden, near the HVAC unit or where the gutters drain.
Plant a row of Golden Currant shrub borders and privacy, open woodland areas, or near patios for screening and birdwatching. Currants are fine-textured background shrubs and accents for native plant gardens and edible landscaping. Use as erosion control on hillsides and on hard-to-mow slopes. Good-sized plants when let grow to a full mature height of 6-8 feet and 6-8 feet wide, these plants can be maintained at any height that your edible landscape size allows!
