Blooms, blooms, and more blooms! For real flower power, you've got to add Dwarf Goblin Gaillardia (Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Goblin') to your borders and containers. This delightfully small Blanket Flower will bloom continuously for several months. And the colorful flowers with their yellow tips are so charming! Each semi-double, deep red flower is broadly rimmed in bright yellow-gold. These showy blooms are truly noticeable, coming in at three inches wide.
This compact plant is perfect to play a starring role at the front of the border. Goblins can bloom from early summer until the first frost. Their strong stems hold the large blooms aloft over the finely-textured green foliage.
Round, textured, red buttons at the center of the bloom are surrounded by delightfully lobed and gilded petals. These mounded perennials add tons of color and texture to your flower beds. You'll adore the blooms from early summer through fall. Now that's an investment in happiness!
Attract butterflies to your yard with this sassy, small perennial. Gaillardia are related to Sunflowers, and have that same kind of energetic zest for life! Snip a few of the blooms regularly for bouquets, so there will be plenty of them to share with the butterflies as pruning encourages rebloom in profusion! Hummingbirds love them too, but deer and rabbits tend to pass them by. These well-branched border plants will keep you smiling.
Grow these versatile plants almost everywhere in the United States USDA growing zones 3 through 9. Extremely cold-hardy, and very heat tolerant, Dwarf Goblin just keeps on pumping out the high-performance flowering display. The vivid blooms won't fade, even in the summer sun or with a little afternoon shade. Get ready for compliments and questions!
Planting and Application:
Decorate the sun-soaked edge of your borders, or prepare a new planting bed that spans the length of your front walkway. Use them anywhere you have a hot sunny spot. They are great in low-maintenance Alpine and rock gardens. We do recommend that you give them supplemental water in drought conditions. In the warmest climates, they would appreciate afternoon shade. Take good care of these undemanding flower factories, and they'll do right by you.
Depending on the size of your outdoor container, you can use them as either fillers or thrillers anywhere! Try them both ways in a coordinating massed display. Create an inspired mass planting to cover bare ground with outstanding color. Plant them 10 inches apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.
For an easy garden feature, partner them with Potentilla, Groundcover Roses, and Coneflowers of all colors. You'll enjoy this modern take on the Cutting Garden, and so will everyone else! These space-saving lovelies can be worked into any sized garden!
Why not plant a happy circle of Dwarf Goblin Gaillardia around your mailbox? Spread some of that joy around. Enjoy decorating your space with these fanciful flowers.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Dwarf Goblin Gaillardia prefers full sun or partial shade. It needs at least four hours of sunshine a day, and would happily take more. Give it average, well-drained soil. If you have heavy, wet soil, plant them in a raised bed or grow them in a container with potting soil. Keep your hard-working wall of Blanket Flowers well-watered, but these hardy perennials tolerate some drought once established.
Use a sharp pair of garden snips and spent a few moments each week deadheading the spent flowers to encourage prolific rebloom. Consider leaving the last blooms of the season standing. Watch closely to see songbirds pecking on the seedheads. It's quite a simple task to tidy up the spent foliage on the first warm day of spring, after all. Prune back in late fall once the foliage begins to yellow.
- Sun-Lover Takes the Heat
- Low to Average Soil Moisture
- Well-Drained Average Soil
