These sun-loving Citrus trees need at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant them in well-drained soil that sheds water quickly and is slightly on the acidic side. They like to have a three-inch layer of mulch over the root system, like pine straw that helps maintain their acidic environment. Spread the layer out three feet past the canopy and pull it away from the trunk. Ensure they receive a moderate amount of water on a regular basis, but allow them to dry out between waterings. Baby your container-grown plants with a regular amount of water during fruit development.

If you live in a cold winter area, move the containers into a cool, well-lit area indoors to protect them from freezing temperatures. Keep container-grown plants on the dry side in winter and ensure your pots have plenty of drainage holes, elevating them off the ground helps improve drainage too. You'll want to move them back inside and out gradually so as not to stress your tree.

Prune in late winter to correct shape and reduce size, if desired. Open the interior of the canopy up to sunlight and good air circulation.
