A mid-season ripening fruit, Frost features wonderful yellow-fleshed freestone peaches with a light red blush over greenish-yellow skin.

Frost is also known for a very showy display of full - almost double - pink spring flowers. Hummingbirds, bees and butterflies will be flocking to your gardens this year! Snip a few branches to bring in during late winter to force indoors!

The handsome, vibrant green foliage makes this a fantastic tree throughout the growing season, providing an amazing backdrop for the juicy gems to follow in mid-summer.

Gardeners have used the Frost peach as a focal point in the landscape. Give it a place of glory in full sun where the beautiful spring blooms can be admired, and the ripening fruit can be observed.

These juicy, and very sweetmedium-to-large size fruits hang ready on the tree for quite some time. That makes harvest very convenient. And really, there’s nothing like fresh peaches grown and harvested yourself! They just don’t compare to store-bought.

How to Use Frost Peach In The Landscape

Frost Peaches are great for fresh eating, drying or baking. There is nothing like the smell and taste of a fresh-baked peach pie in the summertime! The Frost is the perfect peach for that pie. The freestone fruit saves you time preparing all your delicious summer desserts!

Don't forget that nothing brings out the flavor of certain fruits when cooking them on the grill. For a special treat, try your Frost peach lightly grilled, taste how it concentrates the sugars, bringing them to the surface of the peach slice, it's both fun and flavorful!

Their long hang time means you can take your time harvesting. That way you’ll not have to rush to try out all your favorite recipes!

A fantastic ornamental tree in blossom, in shape and when filled out in handsome verdant green foliage, Frost is perfect for front and back yard landscaping! Add one as a front yard specimen or focal point tree, or anchoring a side yard with its 3-season beauty.

A row of these trees pruned smaller creates a privacy hedge that screens and defines your property! Your neighbors won’t mind being hidden by this view!

Set one over your seating area or patio for shade, and an easy-to-reach snack right off the tree, still warm from the sun! Those blossoms in spring are a delight to enjoy a spring picnic beneath!

Of course, any home garden or backyard orchard is the perfect location for Frost Peach!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Choose a location with at least 8 hours of full sun exposure, always favoring the morning sun. Peaches benefit from hot, dry weather during ripening.

The Frost peach requires good draining soil type and should be elevated to 12 to 18 above the existing soil line if poor drainage is suspected. Plant in an enriched location with extra manure or compost and lots of good organic matter.

Regular and consistent moisture is key for juicy fruit and a healthy tree. Protect your tree with extra water during fruiting and in times of drought. Peaches are moderate water users and benefit greatly from being mulched 3 to 4 inches deep to 2 feet outside of the canopy. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.

It is an extremely vigorous tree that will require regular pruning to maintain it to a reasonable height below 10 feet. This tree’s dependable fruit set means that thinning is also important to assure the largest fruit size and to space fruit for good air circulation.

It is easy to maintain this tree much smaller if needed, so any sized yard can now accommodate a Peach tree! Prune to keep an open canopy for sunlight and airflow to reach the interior of the tree. Read more in our Garden Blog on Peach Tree Care!

Adaptable and resistant to Peach Leaf Curl, you’ll save money and time not having to spray your peach each year. Plus a good cold-weather, nearly frost-proof Peach Tree will save you money by providing bushels of healthy fruit each year!

How Fast Do Frost Peach Trees Grow?

Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Frost (Prunus persica 'Frost') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.

Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?

All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!

Harvest Times for Frost Peach Trees

Frosts are typically ready to harvest in July. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.

Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.

When Should Frost Peach Tree be Planted?

Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.
