How to Use Fragrant Mountain Sweet Box in the Landscape

If you can plant it near a path, door or window, you should. The early spring scent alone is worth the price of the plant.

In the warm, dry climate of Zone 9, give it afternoon shade. Provide a 3 inch layer of mulch underneath the entire plant in locations where it is exposed to sun. Summer irrigation may be required during heat spikes.

Areas with humid summers should avoid over mulching this beautiful shrub. Grow it on the dry side. If you want to plant in an area that stays soggy, add at least 18 inches of soil in a mound above your native soil line. Plant directly in that mound, and plant shallowly to improve drainage.
