Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

The Florida Sunshine Anise Shrub (llicium parviflorum 'Florida Sunshine') is a gorgeous broadleaf evergreen that brightens your shade gardens and perfumes the air. Your Florida Sunshine Anise is just as the name implies - a ray of bright sunshine for your yard! It's an evergreen shrub that not only delivers superb four-season color but does so while also providing sumptuous fragrance.

An added bonus on the Florida Sunshine Anise Shrub, ½-inch, yellow-tinted white blossoms appear in spring, bobbing their delicate little heads on dangling stems. Deer won't bother your Florida Sunshine Anise, but the birds will appreciate the tiny, star-shaped seed pods that develop after the flowers. The elliptic, bright green leaves are 2 to 6-inches long. They have an eye-catching glossy appearance that accents their gold-toned finish throughout the spring and summer months.

As autumn approaches, the leaves transition to a brilliant yellow that's impossible to miss in any setting. Foliage on the Florida Sunshine Anise Shrub fades to a more sedate, understated beauty for winter, the creamy tones of the leaves contrasting with the reddish cast of the stems. Best of all, when crushed the foliage emits a delightful anise-like fragrance! Birds love the seeds, but they're not good for humans so don't try using them as you would the spice with a similar name.

Planting and Application:

Plant one as an accent on the north side of your home or use several for a vibrant hedge or screen along your property line. Your Florida Sunshine Anise Shrub doesn't require pruning, but you can shape it if you like, or even guide it into a tree-form if you prefer. It's even long-lived, so under ideal conditions, you can expect to be enjoying it for 50 years or more! Get a bright and colorful foundation plant, specimen or garden anchor that will certainly draw the eye!

Florida Sunshine Anise Shrubs have an upright, rounded nature. It has no significant disease issues and insects tend to leave it alone. It even naturalizes well, so use it as a carefree en masse planting to brighten shaded swaths of your property, and define the backyard and out-of-the-way areas without worry about deer chewing them to pieces! Naturalize large areas for erosion control or to fill a hard-to-mow hillside or slope with their earth anchoring roots.

  • Bright Yellow Foliage & Licorice Scent
  • Darling Blossoms for Pollinators
  • Star-Shaped Seeds for Birds
  • Year-Round Interest!
  • Hedge, Screen, Small Tree or Specimen

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Thriving in the partial sun or part shade, Anise bushes can’t handle full sun. Provide a well-drained and moderately moist environment with a good layer of mulch over the soil's surface. Prune only if needed and right after they’re done blooming.
