Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Over-the-top color! Get ready to fall fast and hard for the lovely look of the First Editions® Flip Side® Chaste Tree PP#30,283 (Vitex x 'Bailtexone'). Growers can't get enough of this beautiful plant that gets its name from the olive-green leaves that flip to a dusky purple color on their undersides with just the gentlest of spring or summer breezes!

This showy plant is all about color! It all starts in the early springtime when the upper surface of the tree's aromatic leaves come out in a verdant dark olive green with just a touch of mauve on the stems and petioles that yields to a purple-grey color by midsummer!

But the show is far from over. Just wait till fall rolls around and the foliage turns a pumpkin orange color just in time for a harvest encore. From a visual standpoint, the Flip Side® Chaste Tree really is a variety that keeps on giving (and on and on!). You'll find that this tree is deciduous in colder climates but may hold its foliage in warmer regions.

And while the color of the foliage is to be celebrated, the true magic happens when the Flip Side® develops its super-sized summer panicles that measure 8 inches in length. These deep purple flowers are a sight to behold and are super fragrant. We're talking about a shrub that becomes heavily laden with blooms, blooms, and more blooms everywhere!

Don't be surprised if neighbors drop by just to bask in their aroma. And they won't be alone. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators will stop by, too. The abundance of blossoms on the tree nearly guarantees it!

Fine Gardening magazine dubbed this plant as one of the best new varieties of the year in its June 2019 edition and it earned awards as "Best Novelty Plant" at Germany's IPM!

Landscape Application:

The delicate lavender blue flowers create nothing short of a symphony of color that the whole neighborhood can appreciate!

Growing 6-8 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide, these are impressive hedges and friendly fencing accents! Create polite property division from the neighbor or separate your front yard from a busy sidewalk with a showy row of these long-lasting bloomers!

Gorgeous on their own, a single 'limbed-up' shrub with the lower trunks exposed becomes an accent tree for the corner of your home's foundation planting or a spectacle on a raised front yard berm (and we won't tell how easy they are to maintain and grow!).

These are great backyard screening shrubs too! An allée around your poolside seating or as a backdrop to your firepit and garden beds becomes a place to sit and watch the bees hum and butterflies flutter without worrying about prying eyes.

Go ahead and pot up this gem in a large planter or raised bed garden! Keep it trimmed smaller in the late winter as a fashionable urn thriller with a fluffy groundcover spiller or filler around its base! You'll gain a pretty porch and patio ornamental that is sure to impress!

  • Awarded Winning "Best Novelty Plant" at Germany's IPM
  • Deep Bluish-Purple Flower Spires
  • Long Flowering Period - Blooms Summer Into Fall
  • Showy Pumpkin Orange Fall Color
  • Specimens & Accent Shrubs, Large Planters, Hedges & Friendly Fences

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Taking care of the Flip Side® Chaste Tree is so simple and easy that even novice gardeners can grow it when they add it to their landscape! Plant these gems in full sun where they will bloom their best in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Choose a well-drained soil location with regular moisture access until they are established, and then, Chase Trees are low moisture usage shrubs! Just give them a drink during prolonged drought and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to support their roots.

Blooming on new wood, prune your shrub in the late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. In cooler growing zones of USDA hardiness 7 to 9, these shrubs can act as perennials and die back to the ground or act like deciduous shrubs, but in frost-free climates, they can keep their leaves year-round.

  • Full Sun For The Most Blooms
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs - Low Once Established
  • Prune Late Winter - Blooms On New Wood
  • Very Easy To Grow!

Over-the-top color and blooms, blooms, upon more blooms! Order the First Editions® Flip Side® Chaste Tree for your landscape today and NatureHills.com will deliver your next landscape conversation starter to your doorstep!
