Maple trees are universally loved for their great fall color and ease of growth. They are used all over North America and can thrive from Canada to Guatemala! Typically, you choose Maples to enjoy the green leaves that cast a cooling shade all spring and summer, and for the color of their fall leaves!
But sometimes that's just not enough! Now you can enjoy beautifully colored leaves in spring and summer on a hardy resilient Maple variety with a native adaptability!
The gorgeous Flamingo Boxelder Maple Tree (Acer negundo 'Flamingo') has luscious variegated cream and green leaves that blush a sweet pink! The new growth is especially pink as it emerges for an especially beautiful effect! People will be asking what kind of tree you're growing because it is such a different look for a Maple! Featuring the same tiny white blossoms that other Boxelder have, bringing in the bees. Unlike other Boxelder, however, is that Flamingo is a seedless cultivar - so no messy samaras!
The lacy leaves are on long petioles and are held in arrangements of three leaflets but with pointed lobes like their Maple siblings. In the fall the leaves turn a glowing gold to prove that it is really a Maple tree and not an impostor!
Landscape Application:
Flamingo Boxelder is a fast grower, reaching full height before you know it. It isn't huge, but it casts a nice shade. It's nicely sized for a garden bed or border or to use as a patio shade tree. It has such striking leaves that it's nice to have it somewhere where you can see the Flamingo Boxelder up close.
Treat this ornamental gem as you would a Japanese Maple with all the perks of a Red Maple! Pop one of these large trees as a front yard specimen to turn heads and boost curb appeal! Nothing else in the neighborhood is going to glow in cream, green, and pink!
Growing 30 - 35 feet tall and wide, you can raise the canopy up and create a spectacular backyard shade tree with gorgeous foliage and cooling shade! Set up an outdoor dining room or an Adirondack reading chair beneath the spreading limbs!
Situate this gorgeous tree on the west-facing side of your home for reduced cooling bills, or to the west of your seating areas and patio to shade your outdoor life!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Besides the new color, Flamingo behaves like the Maple trees that you know and love - easy to care for, does well in full sun in the coolest growing zones of USDA planting zones 5 and 6 but in hotter climates of zones 7 and 8, these leaves need afternoon shade or dappled shade all day.
Any well-drained type of soil works beautifully for these deciduous trees and Boxelder Maples need consistent moisture their first year in the ground but can become highly adaptable and drought-tolerant once established.
Choose a protected location for your tree and keep these delicate leaves away from windows and pavement that reflect excess heat and sun that may scorch the foliage. Provide the entire dripline of your tree to protect the roots from heat and chill, protect the trunk from mower damage, and hold soil moisture more consistently.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade/Dappled Shade
- Well-Drained Soil of Any Kind
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune When Dormant
- Easy Care, Native Adaptability & Hardy Deciduous Tree
A great new look in Maple Trees! If you're in the market for a new shade tree with all the perks of a Maple tree and the color and interest in a Japanese Maple, then the Flamingo Box Elder Maple should be at the top of the list! Now at NatureHills.com!
