Growing Zones 4-9
Gorgeous spires of pure royal blue, the First Glory Veronica (Veronica longifolia 'Allord') is the perfect summer flower for when you need vertical texture and color for your landscape! They punctuate the garden and add rhythm and texture - as well as call pollinators and hummingbirds to you in droves! As your eyes move across the garden, the vertical flowers poking up through the greenery force you to pause and look closer.
Speedwell is super easy to grow and will come back year after year. The "candles" are spikes of deep cobalt blue that wave above glossy green leaves. The flower spikes appear all summer, and boy do they make great cut flowers, too! Imagine the bouquet you can create. You can deadhead any spent blooms left on the plant, to truly appreciate the dark foliage through the rest of the season.
Blooming First Glory Veronica, also known as Speedwell, is cold-hardy and heat-tolerant in USDA growing zones 4-9 and grows to a 2-foot-tall upright herbaceous perennial that spreads to a tidy mound up to 18 inches wide. They don't get eaten by rabbits or deer, but they do attract butterflies and Hummingbirds in droves.
Planting and Application:
There are many uses for this Veronica: in borders, beds, in containers, or as a groundcover. It will be showy all summer while smothered in pollinators! Classic border garden, cottage garden, and cut flower garden plants in an unusual blue hue that isn't too often found in the landscape!
Plant with other similar-hued blooms like Russian Sage, False Indigo, and Blue Ice Amsonia, for a high-impact monochromatic border garden with silver and blue-green foliage plants. Or spice things up and enliven this cool color with purples, pinks, and white for a lovely combination of color that works well with evergreens, large shrubs, and Roses.
Fantastic vertical blooms for bouquets and container plantings, Veronica are wonderfully upright plants that work well in container gardens as thrillers, in borders as tall edging, or to provide vertical texture among any other kind of landscape application - both formal and informal! Brighten the moody blue of First Glory with bright First Kiss or the gleaming First Lady Veronica!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Veronica perennials are easy-to-grow plants that prefer full sun locations in well-drained soil. Veronica blooms best when it gets plenty of water during the growing season to stay perfectly happy in the heat. Top off with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch for moisture retention and insulation. Deadhead blooms as soon as they fade to encourage new blooms to form. In late autumn once the foliage dies back after frost, you can clean up the mound and remove excess debris.
