First Choice Blue Mist Shrub (Caryopteris x clandonensis 'First Choice') is a late bloomer. But not in a bad way! With deep blue clusters of blossoms that pollinators go crazy for! They'll be sure to appreciate the late summer to autumn nectar sources. Also known as Bluebeard Shrubs, these fragrant beauties tolerate coastal and xeric conditions throughout most of the country.
Rounded low-growing shrubs that fill out with lovely lance-shaped blueish gray-green foliage. Highly aromatic, the foliage gives off a fantastic herbal scent when brushed or crushed. The indigo blossoms too are fragrant and a huge draw for bees, butterflies and beneficial insects!
Blue Mist Shrubs are very hardy in USDA growing zones 5 through 9, and reach a tidy height of 2-3 feet in height and similar width. These woody deciduous shrubs handle heat and cold and thrive in the full sun. Highly dependable and adaptable, these are deer, rabbit and drought tolerant bushes!
Planting and Application:
These smaller shrubs are perfect for mixing among perennial and pollinator beds to attract butterflies and feed the bees. Blooming later in the growing season, extend your bloom and season of color into the autumn with these indigo blooms that look fantastic in cottage beds and borders. Edging and accents, these plants even do well in Rock Gardens and tougher spots around the landscape.
Blue Mist Shrubs have the Mediterranean feel and add their herbal and aromatic beauty accent other shrubs and perennials, adding late-season flair and color that's unusual in the autumn landscape. Very low-maintenance once established, they thrive in nearly any condition in the sun. Set against a wall or fenceline, or create a row of unexpected color along your home's foundation evergreens. The play of evergreen and blue set each other off beautifully!
