If you're in the market for a reliable Pear Tree that is prized for its commercial value, superb flavor, and ornamental appeal, then look no further than Fan-Stil™ Pear Tree (Pyrus communis 'FAN-STIL')! Featuring luscious fruit that consistently bears year after year, Fan-Stil™ is remarkable in so many ways!
Also a low-maintenance tree, it is the most fireblight-resistant pear tree on the market today! Saving you time and anguish. Combined with its self-pollinating nature and modest size means you won’t be sacrificing precious space to have bushels of delectable fruit either!
Spring brings a profusion of glorious clusters of white blossoms, featuring a bright floral scent! Pollinators adore these fun and fluffy petals! Perfect for snipping a few branches in late winter to force for an indoor floral display where you can dream of the warmer spring days ahead.
Growing into an upright, smaller-sized tree, Fan-Stil™ won’t overpower your landscape! The glossy, deep-green, oval leaves flutter in the breeze and provide shade as well as creating a fantastic backdrop for the golden jewels to follow!
Late summer and early fall bring medium-sized, bell-shaped fruit. Gleaming against the dark-green foliage, it’s certainly a sight to be seen! Ripening to bright-yellow that’s often blushed red, in the right sunny conditions. Looking like delightfully sun-kissed golden gems, you’ll not be able to resist eating them straight from the tree, still warmed by the sun!
The white to creamy-yellow flesh is juicy, crisp, and oh-so-sweet! They’re perfect as a healthy snack, juicy treat, or delightful dessert! You’ll have bushels of pears to use in all your favorite recipes!
Try adding slices to your pecan and goat cheese salad for a sweetness that will delight the taste buds! Whip into your breakfast smoothies, or top your morning oatmeal with fresh pears for a healthy boost!
While not the largest-sized fruit, this self-pollinating tree produces an impressively bountiful harvest and does so consistently! It’s easy to see why so many commercial growers have transitioned to the Fan-Stil™ Pear! This pear is especially popular in the Southern Seaboard area!
How to Use Fan-Stil™ Pear Tree In The Landscape
Fan-Stil™ grows to a modest 15 - 20 foot height and 10-12 foot width, making harvest a breeze with just a fruit picker or ladder. You can even prune it smaller yet to dispense with the ladder entirely!
Growing upright and evenly, this tree fills out with shiny deep-green summer foliage and even features a touch of fall color!
You can easily tuck one or more into an established landscape or existing home orchard! A lovely specimen tree for the front yard, use as a stand-out accent, or create your own miniature orchard!
Edible landscaping means expecting more from today’s landscaping! Smaller properties and postage-stamp gardens where space is at a premium, all benefit from multi-use ornamentals that also fill the fridge! Swap out that flowering pear tree for a dual-purpose Fan-Stil™ Pear that also provides gorgeous blossoms, shade, superb shape, and produce delectable fruit as well!
Plant your Fan-Stil™ Pear wherever you have a bit of room. It will add early fall fruit to your fruit tree collection and provide your yard with a lush shade and strategic privacy. Create a hedgerow of small fruit trees for supreme privacy and property definition that also feeds you (and your neighbors if you like them well enough)!
Set your lawn chair or a blanket beneath the branches to enjoy the fragrant spring blooms as bees and butterflies lazily fly about! Read under the lush shade of the summer foliage. Or picnic beneath the limbs while in fruit for healthy snacks within arms reach!
When allowed to grow to full size, these trees provide lush shade over your seating areas and patios, or provide your garden beds some relief from the sun. Ornamental flowering trees are often used to anchor for larger garden beds or to soften the corners of your garage or shed.
There’s nothing more picturesque than a flowering pear in the side yard or at the corner of your home! Be sure to plant this tree outside a window you frequently walk by to enjoy its beauty all year long!
These bright-yellow gems are fantastic for eating fresh or added to salads. Tuck one into a lunch box just in time for the kiddos going back to school! The backyard barbecue will gain a tasty addition when you grill these pears to bring out their sweetness and caramelize the sugars!
The crisp white flesh holds up fantastically in baked goods and desserts! You can try canning these as jams, jellies and spiced pear preserves that allow you to create special gifts this holiday season! It’s such a great way to use up that bountiful harvest!
#ProPlantTips For Care
To keep your Fan-Stil™ Pear Trees in optimal health and vigor, be sure to situate it in a full sun location, favoring the drying power of the morning sun. Fruit trees require at least 6 hours or more direct sunlight per day for the most blooms, juiciest fruit, and largest harvests.
Hardy in USDA growing zones 5 through 9, they’re adaptable to both the southern heat, as well as the cold north. Highly disease resistant, Fan-Stil™ is the most resistant variety when compared to other Pears!
Adapting to a wide range of soil types, Fan-Stil™ Pear trees require average but consistent moisture. Choose a site that’s well-drained and provide it regular watering during the summer heat and in times of drought. Add Nature Hills Root Booster into your soil for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Once established, fertilize every couple of years with a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. We recommend Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer.
Top-dress Fan-Stil™ Pear with a generous layer of mulch over the surface to help retain soil moisture more consistently, as well as insulate the root system from both heat and cold. Spread 3-4” thick out just past the drip-line of your tree’s canopy.
Prune to correct shape and reinforce the branching structure in late winter while your tree is dormant. Remove crossing branches to open up the canopy before new growth appears in late winter. Or, keep the tree as small as you like with annual pruning for size control each summer. It's easy to keep them pruned down to as small as you need!
Situate in an area that is protected from frost pockets and with good air circulation. You can pinch the stem buds to help control the growth and encourage strong, even branching. Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior.
The Fan-Stil™Pear tree variety shows a remarkable resistance to fire blight! Plus it features a lower chill time of only about 500 hours so those in warmer climates can enjoy juicy pears too. Self-pollinating means you only need a single tree to produce a luscious harvest without sacrificing space!
Try this unique space-saving and enchanting pruning technique known as Espalier for a real conversation piece worthy of showing off to the whole neighborhood!
