Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

For an incredible bi-color bonanza on 32-inch flowering spikes, the Twilite Prairieblues™ False Indigo (Baptisia x variicolor 'Twilite') is an amazing, vigorous, spring flowering perennial with a strong vase-shaped form with lovely blue-green rounded foliage! Twilite is a dramatic introduction to the lovely Prairieblues™ series of Baptisia!

Lasting until early summer, a mature Twilite Prairieblues™ produces almost 100 flower spikes of unique, pea-like, deep violet-purple flowers, highlighted by a dramatic, lemon-yellow keel. Held above the handsome blue-green foliage, the inflorescence can be up to 32 inches long! The early-emerging pollinators (both bees and butterflies) will arrive to sip the nectar!

A strong growing hybrid of Baptisia australis and Baptisia sphaerocarpa, this new color breakthrough is the result of extensive breeding efforts at the Chicago Botanical Garden. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9, these are incredibly hardy perennial plants!

Planting and Application:

When Twilite Prairieblues™ is not in bloom, this two-tone perennial remains attractive because of the lovely blue-green colored leaves it displays! Use these as prominent backdrops and focal point groupings throughout your sun gardens! Wonderfully low-maintenance, a low hedge or mass planting elevates large swaths of landscape with ease!

The Baptisia looks attractive by itself, against walls and fences, or combined in the back of a border with other June bloomers! It is a good, vigorous grower, extremely long-lived, and destined to become a favorite in the garden!

Twilite Prairieblues™, like all Baptisia, were once hardy native wildflowers and had to compete with deep-rooted Tall Grasses in the prairie, endure drought and even fire, so they have developed a very deep tap root to handle harsh sites, Rock Gardens, and are great for use in fire-wise landscaping!

Cottage gardens gain a unique flower color-combo and vertical texture to the mix, Pollinator borders gain a pretty nectar source! Snip a few stems for your bouquets indoors and create spectacular displays using these specimens in large planters or decorative containers!

  • Contrasting Bi-Color Yellow & Deep Purple Flowers
  • Vase-Shaped Blue-Green Foliage
  • Butterflies & Beneficial Pollinators Love These Blooms
  • Use in Cut Flower Arrangements
  • Long Flower Spires from Late Spring Through Early Summer
  • Compact, Native Cultivar Perfect For Modern Lots, Containers & En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Full sun is best for the most successful flowering and performance. It grows well in average to dry soil but adapts to most conditions as long as they are well-drained. Provide consistent watering throughout your Perennial's first year in the ground, but once established, these are xeric plants! All plants appreciate a 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the root system whether they are in the ground or planters.

Their deep taproots give Baptisia the ability to survive long dry periods but do make it a challenge to move once it is established. If you are careful, you can try to divide larger clumps in the spring. Only do so if your perennials lose vigor or have reduced flowering. The plant can be cut back after flowering to encourage a flush of new blue-green growth. It is also deer-resistant!

Deadhead after the flowers fade to clean up the mounds. In early spring, simply prune them to the ground.

Twilite Prairieblues™ has the most attractive foliage of a Baptisia and can be a bit slow to get established. However, Nature Hills ships mature plants with 3-4-year-old root systems, so that means you won't have to wait!

  • Loves Sun & Heat!
  • High Performance, Salt & Drought Tolerant
  • Versatile & Adaptable to Most Well-Drained Soils
  • Low Maintenance & Low Moisture Once Established
  • Deadhead After Bloom & Prune Early Spring
  • Rabbits & Deer & Drought Resistant
