Which color Hydrangea is your favorite? Is it a rosy deep-pink? Maybe a tried and true blue? Perhaps an autumn burgundy? A modern lime green instead? There are so many to choose from!
You could spend lots of time and money searching out the perfect plant for your favorite color. Or, you could just buy a garden full of Everlasting® Revolution Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hokomarevo') and have all of these colors on one plant!
Specifically bred for the florist trade, the Everlasting® series of Hydrangea hails from the Netherlands. Everlasting® Revolution is a standout in this already stellar line of shrubs!
Tough-as-nails but easy-to-grow, Revolution is a compact Bigleaf Hydrangea that is equally at home in the garden as it is in the patio pot. Plus Revolution is one of the smallest Hydrangea we sell!
Whether you leave them to change shades on the shrub or cut them to fill your vases indoors, Revolution will look adorable and romantic everywhere it goes, holding that amazing color wonderfully!
Revolution begins the show in the warm May weather and doesn't let up the impressive display until winter. The long-lasting flowers kick off late spring or early summer as giant mopheads, ranging from pink or all the way through the color spectrum to a baby blue hue, depending on your soil pH.
Each large pom-pom bloom bears striking pale-green markings interspersed among the many full petals, highlighting the colors even more! From beginning flower bud to fully mature blooms, you'll be amazed by the dazzling flower color-changing display!
How to Use Everlasting® Revolution Hydrangea In The Landscape
Repeat flowering Hydrangeas can sometimes be a disappointment. They bloom all season, but many times they just bloom sporadically. Everlasting® Revolution blooms on both old wood and new wood and keeps the flowers coming!
Fast-growing, Revolution pumps out the foliage color for your garden without skipping a beat! The cool green leaves in early spring stay strong until the frost hits in autumn. The quilted, lushly-green foliage has a delicate, uneven, toothy edge. Forming a tidy, small shrub that won't overtake or overpower other members of your garden!
Cottage gardens and perennial borders will welcome this small, tidy addition, and the colors of the blooms work well with every other flower tone.
Use Everlasting® Revolution in your mixed shrub borders as a low, unobtrusive visual line to define your space. Revolution works beautifully in containers as a stand-alone specimen as it will lend its unique chameleon colors to mass planting.
The romantic blooms are lovely when interspersed in a part-shade woodland garden and informal garden. And of course, you won't want to miss including it in your cutting garden! You do have a cutting garden, don't you? Well if not, you need to start one today! Perfectly suited in both formal or informal settings, the handsome green foliage creates a perfect backdrop for the enormous blooms, and also lends its foil when added to the vase. One bloom has all it takes for an impressive arrangement! Flowers and greenery in one easy step!
After the color fades in fall after frost, the flowers lighten into tan or linen colored, dried versions of their former glory and create winter interest on your shrub all autumn and winter, or can be brought indoors for your dried floral arrangements and decor!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Revolution reaches a modest 18-24 inches tall and wide at maturity. Perfectly fitting into any space you have available and bursting onto the scene each year without holding back.
Everlasting® Revolution thrives in full sun in cooler growing zones, however does much better well in partial shade, or in locations with morning sun and afternoon shade. Delivering perfect, healthy blooms all season long. Winter hardy to zones 5 and up, those in warmer climates will find that Revolution benefits from all day dappled shade in the intense afternoon sun and heat.
Requiring well-drained soils, with consistent moisture, Everlasting® Revolution will not do well in much else. However, soil type is not an issue, as long as it stays well watered. To easily maintain moist soil and keep the roots of your Hydrangea cool as a cucumber, a generous application of mulch over the soil will have Revolution singing your praises!
The acidity or alkalinity of your soil will determine the color of your blooms! Becoming pink in alkaline soils, or taking on the hushed tones of violets and purples in neutral conditions. When planted in acidic soil, it brings out the blue blooms! No matter the pH, your blossoms retain their color-changing display all year.
Pruning is best done in very early spring just as you see new growth remove 4-5 year old branches, winter-damaged stems, and old flower heads. You can deadhead immediately after flowering to encourage rebloom and to help retain a full, bushy, well-branched plant.
