Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Create a fairy tale on your property with the romance of English Oak (Quercus robur). This enduring tree is evocative of the days of yore, when magic filled the air.

No wonder, as these special trees live for many hundreds—if not thousands—of years. They develop into a spectacular specimen.

Picnic under their broad, spreading canopy. In open areas, the sturdy, textured trunk remains short, while the wide, rounded canopy grows large.

Make a statement on your property with these incredible trees. Whether you are Mr. Darcy, or Elizabeth; English Oak adds just the right touch of drama, without becoming "high brow".

Blue-green, lobed leaves give cover, shelter and shade. Mature English Oaks hold acorns on long stalks, which are much appreciated by wildlife.

Rugged and very adaptable, English Oak is a good choice for heavy soils that drain well. It tolerates periodic drought, once established.

The mature size is dependent on your local conditions. Ideally, English Oak performs best in moist, well-drained soils, and can reach maximum size there.

But they are tough enough to handle a bit of drought, and can be grown successfully in moderately alkaline soils, as well. From the ancient Oaks of Britain, to the windswept plains of Kansas, this tree is a testament to endurance.

Perhaps you love the collected works of Shakespeare, or fancy yourself a dedicated Anglophile. Could be that you've simply fallen head over heels in love with their charismatic good looks.

The stately English Oak is a meaningful tree to add to your property. We're proud to offer our expertly grown trees for sale.

How to Use English Oak Tree in the Landscape

Enjoy the beautiful form as a single specimen. Plan for the largest height and spread listed on the Plant Highlights.

Engaging English Oaks beg for a creative touch. Could you bring in a large stone table and outdoor chairs to use as a permanent picnic area?

Plant one on the south or southwest of your property. Plan to install outdoor seating in its shade.

As a young tree, you can easily "sculpt" the tree to custom-fit your site. Perhaps a low branch could be allowed to grow near the ground as a natural seat.

Cover a nearby gazebo with climbing Roses, sited where you can sit and study the bucolic grace of your amazing, sculptural tree. Include a waterproof box to store your latest novel, or blank notebook and pens.

Pair them with other Oaks in a collection on a large property. Or, create a pastoral setting with a mixed planting of many diverse species.

Birch, Beech and disease-resistant Elm and Ask would make wonderful companions in a naturalized landscape. Plant an English Oak as a fantastic deciduous accent in front of a mature, evergreen windbreak.

After English Oaks reach maturity, they'll provide an invaluable acorn mast In a wildlife area. Add them to productive Food Forests.

You could even cherish it as a large-scale backdrop. Add a traditional Knot Garden, with plenty of fragrant Lavender to its sunny side.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Give English Oak full sun, where it will get at least six hours of sunlight. It adapts to many types of well-drained soils, even clay.

Cover the root system with a three-inch layer of pine bark or pine straw mulch. Then, pull the mulch back from the trunk at least six inches.

Carefully water your young tree to get it established in your soil. Even though these are robust plants that can survive periodic drought, we recommend giving them a regular schedule of water in dry weather.

Feed them an annual fertilizer designed for acid-loving trees. Please follow the application rates on the label.

If needed, you can prune any broken branches or train up the canopy in late winter. Plan out your pruning cuts before you start.

Give your English Oak a name, or leverage its appealing strength of character as a namesake for your property. Start your own legacy, place your order for English Oak trees now.
