Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Enjoy the incredible flavor people have loved for well over a hundred years with Emperor Francis Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium 'Emperor Francis'). Excellent for fresh eating and baking...these large, red-blushed cherries are as sweet as candy, but far healthier!

Kick start the season of fresh fruit with an early bloom and harvest of Emperor Francis. Pollinate them with a sour Montmorency or sweet Whitegold, Blackgold and Sweetheart Cherry trees nearby.

Planting and Application:

Forget about splitting fruit, as top choice Emperor Francis Cherry displays good resistance to cracking. As the harvest turns firm and red, taste test their yellow flesh as the fruit sugars ramp up when fully ripe.

    '
  • The trees are very attractive with glossy, textured leaves and snow-white blooms in spring. Emperor Francis is a lovely choice in an Edible Landscape.
  • Race the birds for your fair share of their reliable yearly crop. Use flash tape, netting and large plastic owls moved daily to keep them at bay.
  • Brine your harvest for homemade Maraschino cherries to decorate cocktails and Holiday fruitcakes. You'll appreciate knowing exactly how they were made and they make terrific gifts, too!
  • Use this commercial-grade quality Sweet Cherry in your backyard orchard. Plant in orchard rows to go into production for your family's needs or use high-density planting techniques on smaller lots.
  • This selection stays a bit smaller than others, and should be pruned to a central leader. Over the first few years, work to develop a scaffolding framework for proper air circulation and sunlight penetration.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Emperor Francis Sweet Cherry trees in full sun where they will receive at least six hours of full sun. They also need rich, well-drained soil and appreciate symbiotic Nature Hills Root Booster formula added to your planting hole for life-long support.

  • Water consistently during fruit development. Find out the right way to water plants at the NatureHills.com Garden Blog.
  • Mulch to a depth of three-inches around the trunk, then pull it back away from directly touching the stems. Add high-quality fertilizer according to the label; or top-dress with compost in early spring.
  • In late winter, prune to shape while the trees are dormant. Tip prune in summer for size control if you want to harvest without ladders.
