Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Bold, in your face color and impressive form, the Elizabeth Angus Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea 'Elizabeth Angus') is a heat-loving flowering shrub that displays vivid purple flower-like petals, called bracts, that smother these plants! Forming upright vining stems and multiple climbing branches, these plants can be kept as climbers, trained into an ornamental tree form, or pruned as a low-growing shrub.

These broadleaf evergreens offer year-round color with their glossy deep green leaves and become especially lit up when the dramatic three-petaled bracts form! Each highlighted by a pale yellow stamen in the centers, no one will be able to take their eyes off them each year! Because these lovelies bloom throughout the spring, summer and through fall because of the long-lasting bracts!

Fast-growing Elizabeth Angus is evergreen throughout USDA growing zones 9 through 11, and tolerates almost any warm climate condition, moderately moist soil and loves the heat and sun! Botanically a vine, these form woody stems that can be trained into trees and shrubs with some pruning. Growing into an 8-12 feet mature height and a 4-6 foot wide woody vine!

Planting and Application:

Bougainvillea can be trained up a stair railing or fence to add screening while hiding an ugly chain link or eyesore on the other side. Or train over a balcony partition and covered bench for shade and privacy, plus color! Add height to the garden by training these flowering vines over obelisks, and trellis or let them cascade over an embankment and retaining wall for long-lasting color. This color lends itself to cut flower gardens, poolside plantings, and pollinator borders too!

Elizabeth Angus has small thorny protrusions and can grapple without causing damage to siding or walls. Their taproots make Bougainvillea ideal additions to Rock Gardens, xeriscaping designs and hot regions, because once established, they need little water except during extreme drought. Train into a tree for a spectacular specimen in large planters, porch pots and throughout the landscape as focal points and major curb appeal!

  • Vivid Purple Flower-Like Bracts
  • Glossy Broadleaf Evergreen Leaves
  • Woody Vine Trained As Shrubs & Tree Forms
  • Long Lasting Blooms Spring Through Fall
  • Trellis, Containers, Focal Points & Specimens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Bougainvillea grows in full sun and moderately moist soil, especially while plants are establishing. After they are established, these become very xeric and tolerate drier conditions. For the longest-lasting bloom and healthiest plants, be sure to provide water and a 3-4 inch layer of mulch over the soil surface to hold in moisture and insulate the roots from heat. Prune after flowering to shape and train as desired. Northern growers can enjoy these flowering vines in pots and bring them when it gets below 40 degrees.
