Bloom PeriodEarly Spring, Late Spring

Growing Zones 4-9
The native Eastern Whitebud Tree (Cercis canadensis alba) is an ornamental tree with stunning spring color in the form of drifts of white pea-like blooms! The extravagant show of blossoms it produces in the spring. Early-emerging pollinators will flock to the first feast of the year!
The sweet white flowers bloom put on a profuse display, covering the bare branches at first, and then sharing the space with the adorable heart-shaped leaves that emerge as a perfect romantic blending of hearts and flowers! Even when the flowers fade, the 5-inch, heart-shaped leaves remain a lovely summer-long addition to an already decorative tree.
When the summer draws to a close, your Eastern Whitebud changes into its yellow foliage until the leaves drop for winter. With its leaves gone, the 3-inch seedpods are revealed on the reddish zigzagging stems for some winter color and interest in the barren landscape.
Landscape Application:
Your Eastern Redbud will grow up to 18-25 feet tall and can spread 15-18 feet in an upright multi-trunked vase shape eventually maturing with a flat-topped canopy. Many like to grow this plant as a low-branched or even shrub-form plant where the month-long flower display can be upfront and personal.
Plant several along the street or your driveway for a colorful spring display, or just one as a specimen tree in the front yard. Plant yours on a raised berm in the middle of your front yard to boost spring curb appeal. A single specimen adds shade as a pretty accent, but groupings add privacy and wildlife shelter. Try rows for property division and screening! As an added benefit, your birds will appreciate the fall/winter seedpods, and bees and butterflies will likewise arrive for the spring flowers.
- Drifts of Pea-Like Spring Flowers
- Four-Season Interest!
- Heart-Shaped Foliage

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Hardy natives, Redbuds are adaptable to many soil types and conditions and are generally easy to grow! Plant your tree in a well-drained location with full sun to a touch of partial shade/afternoon shade if you live in a hotter climate. Provide new trees with regular moisture access and a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch.
Fertilize each spring with a flowering tree formula. Once established, your tree will only need supplemental moisture during extreme heat and drought conditions. You can prune yours smaller to suit your needs, or train your tree into a single-trunk, multi-trunk specimen, or shrub form with a few snips in the spring as soon as the flowers have finished putting on their show!
White Redbuds are relatively carefree trees and tolerate a variety of conditions, are seldom bothered by deer, and are very disease and pest-resistant.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Well-Drained Soils
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Prune Immediately After Flowering
- Deer, Pest & Disease-Resistant

Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single stem, multi stem and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.
Single Stem:
These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single-stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.
Multi Stem:
These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times multi-stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.
