Growing Zones 3-7
The Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce (Picea pungens 'Glauca Globosa') is a humble plant that maintains its silvery blue evergreen needles all year round. With a color that shines brightest in the summer, it's still quite a site to see throughout the cold months of winter!
This flat-topped and densely branched shrub Spruce will stand out in the landscape. The Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce is native to the Rocky Mountains so these hardy plants are a piece of cake to grow!
You'll see this Spruce growing bigger every year. Often, it'll grow faster in width than length. This allows the plant to fill the space with beautiful glowing blue foliage. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 7, and grow into a 3-5 foot tall form that spreads 5 to 6 feet wide. Growing dense and compact for a year-round presence that isn't skimpy!
Landscape Application:
From a single accent plant in a formal setting to a contrast piece in a garden full of colorful flowers, the Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce will catch your eye anywhere you plant it. It will polish off your landscape and set a sophisticated tone or bring light to bland areas in your garden.
A single plant can be used as a commanding specimen at a point of transition in your design. Place one at the start of a path, or bend in the border. Use Blue Globes at the corner of your home to anchor the foundation planting or as a low hedge as a showy property division. Enlarge the mulched bed to include it, as well!
Partner the Dwarf Globe Blue with nearly any perennial or smaller flowering shrub. They'll add dynamic color and a dependable, tightly held form that looks great all year long. Try several as an informal grouping for an island bed in your lawn plantings.
Place them in enormous outdoor containers with seasonal Fillers and Spillers. Containerized shrubs become "plant pets" with low needs, but high style. You'll achieve a sophisticated look that you'll never grow tired of. Just be prepared for questions from visitors who'll be impressed with their substantial charm.
